I sympathize with the Tea Party because they have the spine to divide the GOP over certain core principles. Neither the mainstream GOP nor the Tea Party represent my own interests, but I admire the Tea Party.

Guys like you would rather go to an early grave than break with your party line, and in 10 years we are going to see much larger, existential problems with the Democratic Party because of it.

Back in the day they used to have polls on the subject, especially for new voters when the voting age dropped to 18. Independents were also called unaffiliated back then.

With the GOP divided among the Tea Party and the rest of its members, has the Tea Party transformed from a collective action to its own political party? I understand that it's still technically part of the GOP as that's where the majority of their funding comes from, but in the spirit of democracy, they have seemingly become their own entity with unique ideas and constituents.

It is an entity of sorts but it is not a political party.
