Testimony from victims strongly suggests it was the rebels, not the Syrian government, that used Sarin nerve gas during a recent incident in the revolution-wracked nation, a senior U.N. diplomat said Monday.
Carla del Ponte, a member of the U.N. Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria, told Swiss TV there were “strong, concrete suspicions but not yet incontrovertible proof,” that rebels seeking to oust Syrian strongman Bashar al-Assad had used the nerve agent.

This has bad news written all over it.
Obama, like Bush, only wants to hear the facts he wants to hear. Nothing like supporting the rebals you have teamed up with our "enemy" AQ.
We need to just back awy from our 50-60 years of poking our nose in the middle east and leave that area to do its own thing. We are way to closely tied to Isreal to do that though. Giving them billions and then they ignore what we ask them to do in Gaza. Funny how Isreal has us by the nuts.

Let the people in the Middle East kill each other and record it for all the world to see.
Sorry, they're a despicable and rapidly overpopulating race of people who through centuries of violent fundamentalist religious indoctrination have become a cancer on the world.

There's one question that needs to be answered if you want to accuse the rebels of using the weapons. Where did the rebels get the weapons? Assad has said his stockpiles are secure and you can't exactly make these weapons in a garage. If these rebels are foreign islamocrazies from less developed countries then how did they get their hands on chemical weapons?

government documents reveal that the admins of Reagan and HW Bush okayed the sale of dual use items including chemicals, anthrax, and bubonic plague.
So lets not whine about how awful these weapons are; lets man up and admit that this is about profits, not about helping civilians.
The US government lost its credibility on these issues at least a decade ago.

Im going to let you go back and read what I wrote, then try again.
We did help the Iraqis when they were a foil to the Iranians, but the vast majority of Saddam's conventional capability came from the Soviets. Their ability to replicate pathogens and manufacture chemical weapons came from the Soviets. The Baathists were Soviet proxies. Precious little material came from the US.
BTW the US sells dual use materials to LOTS of countries. As does everybody else. Why are you opposed to American companies competing in the global market? Have you seen the whole list of these evil dual use materials? Are you familiar with the vetting process for these kinds of sales? Do you know who profited from transactions with Iraq and how much they made?

Nice to hear that the "vast majority" of Saddam's conventional capability came from the Soviets, but I was commenting on their chemical/bio capability. But thanks for the smoke-blowing.

Rebels admit gas attack result of mishandling chemical weapons
August 30, 2013
In a report that is sure to be considered blockbuster news, the rebels have told an AP reporter, they are responsible for the chemical attack last week.
The story is from AP reporter and Middle Eastern journalist Dale Gavlak and appears on the Mint Press News, which is affiliated with AP.
This news should deflate the accusations, against the Assad regime, coming from the U.S., Britain, and France as well as the Arab League.
Since the chemical attacks last week, the Assad government was immediately blamed. On Monday, Secretary of State John Kerry said: That Assad’s guilt was “a judgment already clear to the world," according to theguardian.com.
As a result of Assad's government being blamed for the chemical attacks, five U.S. warships are now stationed off Syria's coast. These destroyers are poised to deliver cruise missiles in a strike that is due to begin any time now. According to the report on Mint Press there have been several interviews conducted with people in Damascus and Ghouta, a suburb of the Syrian capital.
