You would not see a bit of difference if all drugs were legal except for the lack of violence associated with the illegal trade and decreased government spending of billions of dollars that our government has spent on the fifty years of miserable failure known as the "war on drugs". This is about jobs for cops and nothing else. There is no pent-up demand of citizens just waiting for drugs to be legal so they can start using.AZGrizFan wrote:That argument makes ZERO sense. Unless, of course, you advocate making ALL drugs legal.Cap'n Cat wrote:
Drug violence would be much less if the demand wasn't so high from the United St......oh, you know that.

If you could figure out a way to make that happen WITHOUT me having to pay for the medical facilities to rehabilitate the users, I'd be all for it.houndawg wrote:You would not see a bit of difference if all drugs were legal except for the lack of violence associated with the illegal trade and decreased government spending of billions of dollars that our government has spent on the fifty years of miserable failure known as the "war on drugs". We could redirect the money we spend on incarcerating them now, but, of course, the prison-industrial complex would have none of that.AZGrizFan wrote:If you could figure out a way to make that happen WITHOUT me having to pay for the medical facilities to rehabilitate the users, I'd be all for it.houndawg wrote:

The War on Drugs is a ploy to employ police officers?houndawg wrote:You would not see a bit of difference if all drugs were legal except for the lack of violence associated with the illegal trade and decreased government spending of billions of dollars that our government has spent on the fifty years of miserable failure known as the "war on drugs". No. That was a gluten-free stand. It does not count.D1B wrote:Hey, Klam took a definitive stand on something!kalm wrote:At the risk of being accused of joining the Chizzy/HD circle jerk, they are both 100% right here.

This being about "cops and nothing else" is a bit reductionist, but think about how much money is spent on it. The militarization of local LE, drug courts, for-profit prisons, National Guard helicopters flying interdiction sorties, drug testing labs, mandatory rehab programs for non-addictive substances like pot etc. Christ the DEA alone has a $2 billion budget. It's a cottage industry with well connected lobbyists trade associations to maintain the status quo.AZGrizFan wrote:Ibanez wrote:

Good point. Let's just rebrand prisons into "treatment centers".houndawg wrote:You're already paying for half a century of failure and the world's largest prison population.AZGrizFan wrote:

There. Problem solved.

They're just corporations avoiding taxes, what's wrong with that?D1B wrote:AZGrizFan wrote:

Nope, Dummy McShithead, call em Conk Tanks. The only people who want drugs to remain illegal are conks and the drug cartels, who are also conks.
