It's very unlikely that that the people we're talking about here (the former Navy seal and Ibanez's friend) were born with any of the anomalies discussed in that WHO thing. And if they were they'd be recognized ahead of time as having problems. Unfortunately, there are people who are born with problems. There are, for instance, people who are born hermaphrodites.

But that's not what we're talking about here. What we're talking about here are people that were born with XY chromosones in every cell of their body who have decided to mutilate themselves.

My wife has a cousin that was born a hermaphrodite. They tried to make him more of a boy but nothing took and he has more female attributes. I say he b/c "L" (that's what we'll call him) has female attributes but when you hear him talk and get to know him, he's all male and he'll be open about it. So, on the inside he's a man, but on the outside he's a woman.

Now, i'm not a scientist who has studied genetics and human embryonic development (and I doubt you are) but if there are people that are born with with both sex organs (and the corresponding DNA) is it not possible that people can be born with the sex organs of one sex but genetically are another?

Actually I would consider myself an applied scientist. I started my current career as a statistician then my next job was as a biologist. Now I have a title that doesn't sound meaningful but in common language it would be environmental science in a public health area. And I did study both genetics and embryonic development in school. Not human embryonic development in particular but the embryonic development of vertebrates. And it included study of anomalies such as we are discussing.

That does not mean I specialize in such things and that there aren't a whole lot of people who know a lot more about it than I do. But I do think I have more of an understanding than most people do.

At this point I do not think there have been any cases noted in which someone has what would be perceived as unambiguous normal genitalia of one sex and an unambiguously normal pair of sex chromosomes of the other. In other words I don't think there have been any known cases of a person who appears to be male, has what can be unambiguously identified as a penis along with a functioning prostate and functioning testicles who also has XX chromosomes. And I don't think there has been anybody known to have functioning ovaries and something that is unambiguously a clitoris who has XY chromosomes.

I tried googleing to see if I could find anything like that and didn't see anything. But it's always dangerous to say there has NEVER been anything like (insert thing). Suffice to say that if it has occurred it has been rare. And it's not what we're talking about with most people who are born male and want to turn into a female and visa versa.

I'm not absolutely SURE about the Navy Seal. But I sure would bet he was unambiguously male and showed no sign of anomalies. He would have been through all sorts of physical exams. And I really doubt that someone who was really female could have gone through the physical test of becoming a seal. Not totally impossible, I guess, but not very likely.

You don't get to choose what sex you are. If you're not born a female you can't be a female and if you're not born a male you can't be a male. You can get cosmetic changes and hormone injections. You can be born a man and mutilate yourself to the point where people may perceive you as a woman when they see you. But you're not going to be a woman.

And I think we're doing both this culture as well as the people potentially involved by doing things like going along with it. Like referring the "Chas" Bono as a "he." Ms. Bono is a she masquerading as a he. That's the reality. And that Navy Seal is a he masquerading as a she.
