Can't be any worse than last years Orange Bowl when West Virginia beat Clemson 70-33.89Hen wrote:I won't be watching but do you think it will be a blowout!dal4018 wrote:Okay thanks then your hoping for blowout???
That was okay though because they were both autobid teams.

I know the Orange Bowl people are going to try to put a happy face on this but they've got to be pretty pissed off. Or whoever gets this dog. They lose to 4-8 Iowa. They beat 1-11 Kansas by 7. And they're going to a BCS Bowl because they won the pathetic MAC.
Me, I wish there was no such thing as college bowls and college football at all levels just had playoffs like very other level of football does.

The BCS got 6 of the best teams in the country to fill the 10 bowl spots available, a 60 percent "success" rate. That's what happens when you give autobids and make up a crazy formula to allow non autobid schools to have access.SDHornet wrote:That alone makes NIU's berth worth it.dal4018 wrote:Did you see Kirk Herbstreit go berserk after hearing that Northern Illinois is playing Florida St???
The 10 BCS teams should be the top 10 in the BCS standings:
Notre Dame
Alabama
Florida
Oregon
Kansas St.
Stanford
Georgia
LSU
Texas A&M
South Carolina
You could also make some arguments that Oklahoma and/or Florida State should be in.

Re: Northern Illinois in the Orange Bowl?
That's why they set it up in the first place...of course then the anti-trust lawsuit threats came about and the BCS had to give a very slim shot for the non-AQ's. Any non-AQ able to defy the BCS odds and get a berth is well deserving IMO.BlueHen86 wrote:The BCS got 6 of the best teams in the country to fill the 10 bowl spots available, a 60 percent "success" rate. Hey nothing wrong with talking up the MAC - they were good this year, but there is a divide between the big-time leagues & everybody else no doubt. Boise probably belongs with the haves at this point in time & they're the only ones that ever really broke through.
I'll eat crow for my foot up their ass statement, haha. I just hate that damn Tomahawk Chop & Chief whatever his name is.

I agree the MAC has improved and NIU is a really good team. They ran into a fired up FSU defense.

Agreed. If Florida St had played NIU the way they played La Monroe, I think the results would have been different. But they came into this game fired up and brought some serious heat on defense.tampajag wrote:FIFYbluehenbillk wrote:Hey nothing wrong with talking up the MAC - they were good this year, but there is a divide between the big-time leagues & everybody else no doubt. Disagree on Boise being the only ones that have really broken through. TCU might be in the Big12 now but they beat a very good Wisconsin team in the Rose Bowl to help clear the way for that invite.

Re: Northern Illinois in the Orange Bowl?
Hindsight is 20/20 but before the games were played NIU was just as or more deserving of a BCS bid than Louisville or Wisconsin. Florida State came in fired up and Florida came in flat and got slapped from the start. Match-ups and a team's mental approach to a game can make a huge difference in the outcome.Grizalltheway wrote:I hate to pull a CitGrad here, but about Louisville...BlueHen86 wrote:More power to NIU.![]()

Meh. The Big East isn't anything to write home about, but it's certainly stronger than the MAC. NIU beat 2-10 Army, 1-11 Kansas and non-playoff UT-M, and lost to a 4-8 Iowa team in their OOC schedule. Hard to make a case they were more deserving.UNI88 wrote:before the games were played NIU was just as or more deserving of a BCS bid than Louisville
