Feinstein calls for banning more than 150 types of firearms during dramatic press conference
WASHINGTON — California Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein staged a dramatic press conference Thursday on Capitol Hill with 10 weapons at her side and unveiled legislation instituting a government ban on more than 150 types of firearms, including rifles, pistols and shotguns.
Flanked by other anti-gun liberal lawmakers, including New York Sen. Chuck Schumer and Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin, Feinstein announced the introduction of the “Assault Weapons Ban of 2013.”
The legislation being pushed by Feinstein — who has long history of calling for gun bans — would prohibit the sale, transfer, importation and manufacture of certain firearms.

Re: **** You Dianne Feinstein
It won't pass as written, but what we have is akin to death by a thousand paper cuts...
Folks like Houndpuppy say confiscation can never happen...but Feinstein's bill does just that in a quiet, back door method...
She wants all weapons registered...but I can keep it after I register it...
But when I decide to hand it onto my son, or I die...the government gets the weapon without having to pay my estate anything...
That, my friend, is confiscation...and since it is registered (if she gets her way) the government knows where it is...
I am not worried about her bill passing as written...but I am concerned that something as bad as universal background checks will be passed...

Although I'm no fan of Feinstein, at least she comes across as genuine in this and her bill, while having no chance of passing, does attempt to do something to stop the kind of events like Newtown. Obama is signing something like 24 executive orders and nothing he's doing will do anything to prevent a tragedy like that. Criticize Feinstein if you will, and there's ample ground to do it, but at least she's proposing something that could actually limit gun violence.

By making a real attempt to take guns, and most guns, out of circulation. Like I said, there's certainly an argument against her's, but a measure to take guns, even pistols, out of reach is a real attempt to stem gun violence rather than the measures taken so far, by Obama included, that don't do anything in that regard while professing that they do.Col Hogan wrote:How???GannonFan wrote:Although I'm no fan of Feinstein, at least she comes across as genuine in this and her bill, while having no chance of passing, does attempt to do something to stop the kind of events like Newtown. Meanwhile, Ted Nugent, Wayne LaPierre, and rural county sheriffs across the land are making Feinsteins job easy by opening their mouths. I swear to god if any of the national gun rights "spokesmen" were half as rational and eloquent as Hoggie, CID, Grizza, or 93 on the issue, there really wouldn't be much of a debate on this.

300,000,000 guns. The manpower and budget simply do not exist to send cops house to house confiscating weapons. Put on a fresh Depends and relax, Sgt. Schultz.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with having to register guns. Why not just treat them like automobiles, you have a license, you have to pay a registration fee, heck it's another way to help states reduce their debt.

But requiring registration of a gun, without charging for the registration, could pass the Constitutional muster. Certainly would fit in the "well regulated" language there as well.

Well, I'd deal with the confiscation when that comes up - the whole line of thinking that you need to stop some supposed long term scheme several steps before that actual thing that concerns you is just a load of tripe. Frankly. Your lack of faith in your country is disturbing.Col Hogan wrote:Registration...then confiscation...GannonFan wrote:But requiring registration of a gun, without charging for the registration, could pass the Constitutional muster. But beyond that, if you're already for background checks, I assume on new sales only, wouldn't you think that would already work like a registration anyway? Surely there would be some record of the check and the reason for it (i.e. what type of gun). The government surely wouldn't throw away the record of the background check.
As for the background checks, why are you for background checks on public sales but against them on private sales? Why leave the loophole for people who wouldn't pass the public background check?
