Just to be clear..
If I thought Mitt had a chance of winning I'd vote against him
which means I would be forced to vote for Obama
but I don't see that as an issue - so - I can vote my way for Johnson

Even if Mitt had a shot at winning the overall election, he wouldn't have a prayer at winning Washington state so...you're good either way, I guess.

Romney is the Wall Street shyster who bankrupted millions, stole their homes and dreams and shut their businesses down. Great guy and thanks conks. :ohno:

Great resume, too.
Paul Federman (louElouE)

Despite Romneys "self-success story" that he now likes to tell everyone, Mitt didn't start any business, not even his own company. Bain Capital was a subsidiary of Bain and Company. Ed Bain set him up and raised the seed capital. Romney didn't invest one dime of his own money, he took no risks, no consequences for failure, all reward. Critics of leveraged buyouts call it the "buy, strip and flip" business model--buying mature companies with a small equity investment and leveraging up the company with debt. Also referred to as corporate raiders, they then extract value in the form of a cash dividend or restructure the company for resale. The higher debt load that results from a leveraged buyout (rebranded themselves as "private equity" firms) often places the acquired company at increased risk of bankruptcy. We already know Romney got rich bankrupting 8 companies in 9 years: Total take for Bain : $779 million. a. AMPAD....................Bankrupt 2002.........Bain profits: $102 M b. DDI CORP...............Bankrupt: 2003.......Bain profits: $ 36 M c. DAMON CORP.......Bankrupt: 2009.......Bain profits: $ 1.5 M d. DADE BEHRING.....Bankrupt: 2002.......Bain profits: $365 M e. W. GRINDING... Bankrupt: 2001.......Bain Profits $ 16.5 M ................................................................Total Bain Profits: $779 M $20,000. That's how much money Romney is estimated to have made from each worker laid off during Bain's many corporate takeovers. Nice work if you can get it (or take it away from someone else). Romney created nothing except money for himself and his partners. Romney was wrong about the auto industry. Although his father was CEO of American Motors, from which Mitt enjoyed ALL the advantages of life, Mitt Romney abandoned the auto industry in it's time of need. Romney said "Let Detroit Go Bankrupt. He was dead wrong! Obama saved GM and Chrysler. Here's the quote: "The over $1.5 billion in federal aid to support the games proved to be a record level for a U.S. Olympics, 1.5 times that of the previous 7 U.S. olympics games since 1904 combined (adjusted for inflation)". Romney is as phoney as a three dollar bill. Character, Character, Character..

I respond to the Friday letter “Put a businessman in the White House” from Hazel White. White must have a very short memory.

Wasn’t it a businessman whose “leadership” tanked our country in the first place? That was only four years ago. I refer, of course, to a businessman by the name of George W. Bush, a graduate of one of the most prestigious business schools in the world. We also know what happened to our economy and our national financial condition on his watch.

Another businessman in the White House is the last thing we need, especially one whose resume looks disconcertingly similar to Bush’s. Mitt Romney has the same privileged family history (silver spoon), the same educational history (the best schools), the same military history (avoidance), the same political history (former governor), the same business-school training (Harvard), and yes, the same smug look. The similarities are downright scary.

All of this assumes that Romney legitimately can be described as a businessman. His resume perpetuates the myth that he has been responsible for creating jobs.

“Myth” Romney has not created jobs. If he were a Les Wexner (Limited Brands) or a Robert Walter (Cardinal Health), I’d be happy to label presidential candidate Romney a businessman. Wexner and Walter created hundreds of thousands of jobs.

In contrast, Romney was a financial speculator and manipulator.

He made money with money, most of it other people’s money. He has no record of operating businesses or creating jobs, as he wants us to believe.

I was able to buy my home with Obama's help. He's help create millions of jobs lost by your hero - W and he saved the auto industry. Things are way better now than they were 4 years ago. Sorry Baldy.

Wonder if this was on Romney's resume'?
The Globe cites a former SEC commissioner saying the documents listing Romney as Bain’s chief executive between 1999 and 2002 cannot be dismissed so easily.

“You can’t say statements filed with the SEC are meaningless. This is a fact in an SEC filing,” Roberta S. Karmel, a professor at Brooklyn Law School, told the Globe. “It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to say he was technically in charge on paper but he had nothing to do with Bain’s operations.”

Karmel also suggested this about the filings: “If someone invested with Bain Capital because they believed Mitt Romney was a great fund manager, and it turns out he wasn’t really doing anything, that could be considered a misrepresentation to the investor.”

(Update:)

Stephanie Cutter, deputy campaign manager for Obama’s campaign, took it a step further in a call with reporters today:

There are two ways to interpret the story, Cutter said. First, that Romney was “misrepresenting his position” at Bain to the SEC, “which is a felony.” Second, that he was ”misrepresenting his position at Bain to the American people.

“f that’s the case,Cuter said, “if he was lying to the American people, that’s a real character and trust issue.”

The Romney campaign’s Baldy  suggests that the paper’s story “hinges on a (Jimmy) Carter-appointed lifelong Democrat’s assertions, cast as unbiased.”

Typical conk - uses Washington connection to secure billions for a personal project, then takes credit for said project then runs for president on a government must stop spending platform.

Yep, great guy, great resume. :thumb:
Democrats and even some Republicans have criticized Romney for taking credit for the 2002 games' success while relying on federal funding to help cover costs as the Salt Lake Olympics sought to recover from financial mismanagement and corruption.

Romney took over the games in 1999 after its leaders were accused of sending money to members of the International Olympic Committee to help Salt Lake City win the games.

By Romney's account, the government spent about $600 million helping the Salt Lake Olympic Committee. An additional $1.1 billion was planned for projects like roads and bridges, infrastructure improvement projects that the government probably would have paid for eventually, though the timing of the games may have sped up the construction.

Romney has made himself the very public face of the effort, claiming that he personally cut millions from the budget, wooed major companies and won sponsorships himself and pulled the whole endeavor back from the brink of failure. His record in Salt Lake was the cornerstone of his run for governor in Massachusetts, a campaign he announced in March 2002, just weeks after the games concluded.

Romney, who promises to slash federal spending if elected, rarely acknowledges the federal support for the 2002 games on the campaign trail. His aides say much of it was for increased security costs after the 2001 terrorist attacks, which occurred about five months earlier.

But Romney doesn't mention the commitments the government already had made to cover costs associated with the games — or elaborate on his role in persuading congressional appropriators and critics to give the games more money.

In the 2004 book he wrote about the games, "Turnaround," Romney outlined how he revamped the Salt Lake Olympic Committee's lobbying operations in Washington and elsewhere. In one instance, he highlights how he made arrangements for different states to send experienced bus drivers to Utah. He helped arrange to pay them union wages, he wrote in the book — and he persuaded the federal government to pick up the tab.

One of the lessons he learned: "If you work at it long enough, there is always another way to get the help you need in Washington," he wrote.

STAGE STORES....Bankrupt: 2000.......Bain profits: $100 M f. GS INDUSTRIES......Bankrupt: 2001.......Bain profits: $ 65 M g. DETAILS..................Bankrupt: 2003.......Bain profits: $ 93 M h. W. W.

That's comical. There hasn't been a more smug president in our history than the jackass currently occupying the white house.
