I agree and think most fans of the lower tier conferences would as well.

24 gives the PFL a AQ and I'm all for that.

It also saves an AQ for a new conference to be formed (AEast?) or in the alternative the Ivys if they change their mind.

Anything beyond 24 is expansion for the sake of expansion and I don't really see any compelling reason for it.
Or the SWAC.
Why not the SWAC I truly wish that this league still had its automatic playoff status seeing as how Jackson St is currently climbing up the 1-AA charts and is ranked #14.It would be great to see how they would fair against non-conference competition and QB Casey Therriault could use the playoffs as tune up for an invite to the NFL.

Way to bring race into it. :coffee:
Agreed race has no place in this subject as stated before I hope that the SWAC rejoins the 1-AA playoffs
The SWAC is comprised of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. They often have hugely attended games with other Historically Black Colleges and Universities. They rarely play teams that are not Historically Black College and Universities and when they do, attendance is usually down. The SWAC clearly doesn't care about I-AA playoffs and when they did participate they were 0-19 in the playoffs. I'm sorry if you feel that my observation is racist.

+1

...at least the Ivy League, not sure about the SWAC....
How many schools from the Ivy League are in the top 25 and the SWAC has two right now Jackson St and Alabama St. but unfortunately because of JSU's poor performance in the class they wouldn't be allowed to participate.

Also this applies to Prairie View as well and its resurrecting of its once dormant football program. If they had been among the top 25 it would be a perfect opportunity for them as a team to see where they have progressed

Then how would they know if they have progressed as a team if they can't get a shot at the rainbow at the end?

I think what dal4018 is saying that PV didn't even have the opportunity to be considered for the playoffs back then because of the coinflip issue with Grambling. The SWAC denies themselves the opportunity to be considered.
MEAC, last one out turn off the lights.

They don't, but why is it up to the NCAA to include them if their conference has chosen not to participate?

I'm fine with 24 due to the possibility of seeing more cross conference match ups between the big 4. The problem with the AQ's for the mid majors is the lack of scholarships. That should be the carrot used for any aspiring conference to earn an AQ if it isnt already. Set a minimum scholarship funding level like 50. If you don't want to or can't, you're still in the division and can still earn an at large if you're good enough and beat the odds.

In 2005, EWU finished 6-5, won the tie breaker, and had a very good UNI team down 10 late in the game before losing in the first round. And I'm pretty sure there have been a few CAA teams that missed the playoffs who could have made some noise. JMU last year? So again, the problem isn't the 6-5 record or the conference it's the funding level.

Also, everyone should be able to count one DII game every year. No reason not to.

I was about to comment we went 7-4 in the regular season that year but then realized one of those was against a DII that you didn't include. Interesting that we only won 6 Division games that year.....good illustration of what can happen in one of the power conferences.

My take, more isn't always better. I guess this will include some additional auto bids, maybe the Ivy and PFL. The NCAA needs to help with the cost, thru sponsorship. Why should NCAA games cost so much and do you ask team which don't even give scholarships to fork over +$50K to play in the playoff games.
I hope that the SWAC is allowed to rejoin the playoffs
That's the league's choice not the NCAA's. So until they decide to kill the SCG (which should have died years ago) then sending our champ to the playoffs is a moot point. And even then it would still depend on who that champion is.

I agree, right now there isn't a SWAC team worthy of the playoffs. Right now we have very few OOC wins and even fewer decent wins. When your possible league champ has a double digit loss to one of the worse league teams you have problems.
