A few of these players seem like Beast:

Stephon Robertson, LB, 5-11, 200, Alexandria, Va., Edison

Rated by ESPN.com as a top 150 prospect. In 2008 was district defensive player of the year, first-team all-district at running back and linebacker and first-team all- region at linebacker. Gameday magazine selection as first-team all-region at linebacker. Inducted into the Fairfax County Football Hall of Fame. As a senior he had more than 130 tackles and averaged 10.4 yards per carry and scored 24 touchdowns.

Adrian Cavanaugh, LB, 6-0, 215, Ashland, Va., Patrick Henry

Rated as a three-star prospect by Rivals.com as a linebacker. Was the 2008 defensive player of the year in the Colonial District and the Central Region co-defensive player of the year and all-state at linebacker. An all-academic selection in the district, region and state.

There's more who look good, but these two seem to stand out. Overall looks like a good class for JMU.

Jordan Ursua WR 5-9 175 Kailua-Kona, Hawaii/Kialakea HS
Karl Williams RB 6-0 230 Layton, Utah/Layton HS

Most notable among the high school players, at least in the state of Utah, is quarterback Ammon Olsen, Utah’s reigning 5A MVP. Olsen led Alta High to a state championship this year, throwing for 3,209 yards and 36 touchdowns and running for another score.

I had the chance to watch this kid play several times during his tenure and Alta High School and let me tell you he is an athlete. He is very accurate with his passes, long or short and can run the ball very well (not afraid to take a hit.) I personally believe that this kid will be starting next year for the Thunderbirds who are in dire need of a QB. This kid is for real and is a perfect fit for Southern Utahs pass heavy spread attack.

Not sure... It appears that Richard Wilson is from the Baltimore area and played Juco out in Cali. and Kavon Seaton was playing at the Navel Academy Prep School in Rhode Island... so I guess it's really not a stretch seeing as both of these boys have ties to the east coast.

Portland State sign 25 recruits; six from Texas

Post by CaseyOrourke »

http://www.oregonlive.com/vikings/index ... six_f.html

One of Portland State coach Jerry Glanville's first rules in recruiting is to concentrate on the high school prospects within six hours driving distance of the Park Blocks.

In putting together his second recruiting class with the Vikings, Glanville expanded his six-hour rule -- to include Texas.

On Wednesday, The Vikings signed 25 players to national letters of intent, including five from Oregon, eight from California, two each from Washington and Hawaii, and six from the Lone Star State.

"We still got seven kids from within six hours of here," Glanville said. "That's still our emphasis. But within the six-hour rule, we run into Pac-10 teams that are after the same people we want, so we're not able to get everybody we'd like to get.

"We had to go outside the six hours to get what we needed."

Historically, the Vikings have tried to build their teams using mostly Northwest-grown talent and then supplemented that with players from wherever they could find them, typically from California.

And although that remains the basic philosophy, Glanville made a concerted effort during the past year to get a foothold in Texas where he spent part of his NFL career as the coach of the Houston Oilers.

Assistants Bobby April, Kevin Emberton and Josh Fetter did most of the initial leg work during trips to Dallas and Houston in October. Glanville then joined April and Emberton on last month's home visits that sealed the six commitments from Texas that the Vikings ended up with.

"We knew we could go into Texas and compete for players that could help us win, and we knew that before we went in there," Glanville said. "It helps that the high school coaches in Texas take such good care of us. They treat our staff and treat our school as if we're a Texas school."

Glanville has no complaints with how he gets treated in Oregon, but he has had to wrestle at times with Portland State's image as a commuter school in an urban setting and some of the stereotypes to go with that.

"If we go on and become more successful, we'll become more attractive to the kid within six hours," Glanville said. "But we have to prove it on the field."

Glanville is counting on this recruiting class to help reach that goal. He signed 15 defensive players and 10 offensive players, and filled needs at every position.

Among the Oregon players signed were two quarterbacks, Tym Pearson from Springfield's Thurston High School, and Nick Green, the former Central Catholic High School standout, who originally signed with Air Force last year.

The Vikings also landed Josh Ah Toon, a 6-foot-3, 300-pound defensive lineman from Newberg, Mitch Gaulke, a 6-2, 265-pound offensive lineman from West Linn, and Nevin Lewis, a 6-1, 195-pound wide receiver from Culver. Carl Sommer, a 6-4, 230-pound defensive end from Wilsonville who played briefly at Oregon State last season, also signed a financial aid agreement with the Vikings.

Glanville rated this year's class a notch above his first recruiting class.

"This one has more kids that can play right away," Glanville said. "With last year's class, we had a lot of people that red-shirted that will make an impact eventually, but this class can make an impact right now.

"I can look at certain names at certain positions on the board and those people have a chance to excel in the entire conference."

Some of the players Glanville seemed most excited about Wednesday afternoon were linebacker Jaycob Shoemaker from Sacramento's Casa Roble High School, strong safety Nathan Snow from Houston's Clear Lake High School, and wide receiver Keitrell Anderson from Houston's Aldine High School.

But will they be among the newcomers making an impact next season?

"I don't think you really know until you get them on the field," Glanville said. "I know they'll help the team, but I don't know when.

"When you combine the two recruiting classes, you've got a solid group of athletes that give you depth. We're still going to be a young team, but when this group coming in is sophomores, they will be enjoying their football experience immensely."
