Why? Everyone that works for them has to pay taxes. The dividends they pay their shareholders are taxable.

Every time someone trades their stock for a gain, that's taxable.

Shouldn't that be enough?

You and I are both aware that the world needs ditch diggers too, and it has ever since ditches were first invented. The problem is today's ditch digger buys materialistic goods to make themselves feel happy and they are encouraged to do so as that helps drive the economy. The bad part is that after paying for that standard of living they don't make enough to pay for catastrophic health situations, or save, or send their kids to school or pay taxes.

They spend too much and make too little.

We can either afford a middle class and slightly less really rich people or rich people with slightly less, or relegate the middle class to wallowing in the filth.

"Oh look! There's some lovely filth over here!"

So everyone that works for or invests in them pays enough taxes to provide for their own personal use of the commons as well as Exxon's use of the infrastructure, schools, police and fire, court system, environmental and health regulations and costs, and use of the military to provide stabilization for the oil supply and markets?

I'd like to see that study. :coffee:

Exxon pays plenty in taxes:

Remember, income taxes are not the only taxes a company like Exxon pays.

Very good point. "Progressives" saying "we're all in this together" when about 10 percent of the people pay about 60% of the total federal taxes is laughable. If we're all in this together, how about we all start paying the same amount for sustaining the country. Until we do this, cut the "we're all in this together" crap.

Liberals are the only people who think a gradutaed tax system is somehow "fair".

From each according to his ability, to each according to his need. (Something like that, right?)

The necessaries of life occasion the great expense of the poor. They find it difficult to get food, and the greater part of their little revenue is spent in getting it. The luxuries and vanities of life occasion the principal expense of the rich, and a magnificent house embellishes and sets off to the best advantage all the other luxuries and vanities which they possess. A tax upon house-rents, therefore, would in general fall heaviest upon the rich; and in this sort of inequality there would not, perhaps, be anything very unreasonable. It is not very unreasonable that the rich should contribute to the public expense, not only in proportion to their revenue, but something more than in that proportion.

Your point is?

Why don't you argue (in your own words) the lack of merit behind the idea that everyone paying 10% is somehow unfair? Maybe develop an opinion based on something other than the 6x5 foot world inside your bubble?

How many poor in America are actually spending the majority of their incomes actually getting food? I see some pretty poor folks down at the Piggly Wiggly buying Ho Hos and collard greens in bulk. Hell, do you even KNOW any "poor" people in America? Most of the "poor" people I know have bigger television sets and nicer cars than I ever had.

Actually, nevermind. I am through acknowledging retards. Just forget it.

Just saying that this kind of bullshit:
Liberals are the only people who think a gradutaed tax system is somehow "fair".
Ain't true. :coffee:
CID1990 wrote: Why don't you argue (in your own words) the lack of merit behind the idea that everyone paying 10% is somehow unfair?
Because that 10% comes from a rich person's savings. The 10% comes from a poor person's food, housing budget.
CID1990 wrote: Hell, do you even KNOW any "poor" people in America? Most of the "poor" people I know have bigger television sets and nicer cars than I ever had.
Yes. I know quite a few poor people. Most of them work their ass off. You can generalize if you want.

I could do the same... "ALL the wealthy people I know inherited their wealth." It's not accurate. But, it sounds good.

And then, I can follow your template by finishing my post calling you a retard. Always an effective argument.

I'm about to start another thread with more details but the Federal government spends, on average, about $30,000 per houshold per year while people in the lower 60% of the income distribution pay an average of about $4,100 per household per year in all Federal taxes.

Do you think that 60% of the population would be willing to up its average household "contribution" to $30,000 per year so that they'd be bearing their fair share of what it costs to maintain the massive government the majority of them have demanded if, in exchange, we'd say that we'd do something to ensure that the same proportion of rich kids went off to war as poor kids?

I don't.

That could be sarcasim on your part in answer to the question I'd say it started near the end of the 19th century and/or the beginning of the 20th century then really gained momentum with the onset of the Great Depression in 1929.

At some point we evolved from a poplulation largely composed of people willing to do things like cross oceans in primitive wooden ships and cross continents with almost nothing; taking tremendous risks with full knowledge that they could starve to death, die of disease, or be killed by native inhabitants to a population of people born thinking that the world owes them what they need.
