Side note? This now becomes the main story. Pakistan has a lot of explaining to do.CitadelGrad wrote:Interesting side note. Obama's compound is only about 200 meters from the Pakistan Military Academy.

Yeah. Anyway, EVERY mission like this implodes due to helicopters malfunctioning. Our military sucks. Got lucky on this one.89Hen wrote:Further proof atheists are intellectually inferiorD1B wrote:

That's a different discussion, especially since this mission was a success. The discussion should now turn to how Pakistan let him live there for 5-6 years (what reports are saying)?D1B wrote:Yeah. Everyone who has ever worn a military uniform should be as proud as I am today. The greatest day of my life was when Cobblepebble was born. This is easily the second greatest.
Somewhere out there Cap'NCat weeps.
Screw him and the rest of the anti-military crowd on this board!
Congrats to my brothers and sisters in uniform!

Well D1B, if you think everyone in the military is a christian then I will invite you to meet this group...http://www.militaryatheists.org/expaif.html
To associate military personnel as christian is as blanket of a statement as JoltinJoe associating military personnel with Catholicism.
When it comes to military service I think you are both equally clueless.

Well, that does it. I have now seen the light. I now totally think Iraq can be a flourishing republic even with the many warring factions who don't trust each other. I'm now confident that Islamic fundamentalists won't win any free and fair elections in Afghanistan. Our policy in the middle east will no longer create terrorists faster than we can kill them. I'm now also totally confident the money being pissed away in the middle east won't be a big waste. Today's a big turning point for America and the Middle East. Any second now the Washington Monument will turn to gold and all of our debt problems will be erased, too.
Seriously, at this point, this is a just a feel-good moment. Sorry to rain on this parade.

Actuality, it's more than a feel-good moment if just one little billionaire Saudi kid sees this and decides that maybe a career of blowing up innocent people is not so rewarding.Pwns wrote:Well, that does it. Great news to be sure. With all the surveillance active all around him I can't help but wonder if this victory is a bit more symbolic than truly disruptive to al Qaeda - I don't know if we truly lopped off the head or just a shadow figure for the organization. Do you think bin Laden was truly still calling the shots as he was a few years ago?
I'm proud of the operation, the military, the intelligence community, and our President for pulling this off but seems to me that bin Laden's death would have been a lot more relevant 5 yrs ago than today.

D1B will determine what the discussion should now be. And according to him, this (and every) discussion should be about our fucked up, Christian, baby-killing, shitty military killing peace-loving people for no reason.89Hen wrote:That's a different discussion, especially since this mission was a success. Oh, and one more thing:
The info gathered to determine where Bin Laden was hiding was gleaned from "interogation" of GTMO detainees...

After thinking about it, in my initial knee jerk reaction I was wrong. Obama does deserve a bump in the polls and some credit for the killing. All hail the annoited one. There. You donks happy?BDKJMU wrote:BlueHen86 wrote:
He absolutely deserves a bump in the polls. Carter was criticized for a failed Iran hostage rescue attempt, Clinton was criticized because he supposedly could have have Bin Laden but let him get away; Obama gave the order for an operation in Pakistan and now Bin Laden is dead.
Give credit where it's due. If this mission had failed Obama and the U.S. would have been embarrased and there would be lots of people on here blasting Obama because of it.

Jesus Fucking Christ, in one weeks time we find out that Obama is a naturally born American Citizen and that he is not weak on terrorism, and in fact harvested the most wanted criminal the world has known in the last half century.
And all we have is Donald Trump to thank for it?

couple of things -
I like the fact that he was buried anonymously at sea, but in accordance with Islamic tradition. Thereby for the umpteenth time reiterating the Islamic world who our war is against - but also leaving no place to turn in to a shrine.
What I find interesting is that most of the celebrations are by college students... who were at best 11 years old on 9-11... I honestly find that fact a bit distasteful...
Oh, and D? Grow up. This trolling is beneath even you.
