Nope, I'm surprised the floor didn't collapse and cause the injuries. Must have been a first level apartment or a town home.

I agree. But they are and it is. You know that as soon as you sign that LOI you've got an extra level of scrutiny and responsibility. It works great for some kids (I've got a cousin that plays NAIA, he was a horrible student, but being on the team has made him do a 180 and it's great), some kids can't handle it.
Is JMU on winter break? Out of season, out of school. This is BS. I've never even heard of "mob assault".
"Elaine, you're from Baltimore, right?"
"Yes, well, Towson actually."

Maybe Towson's players weren't big enough to constitute a mob?? :D
I keed...

I get what you're saying and I hope you're right about it being BS. But the initial report, as it always does, sounds bad.

Yeah, didn't some kid get arrested and charged with "launching missiles" at cars, when all he was doing was throwing snowballs? Whatever happened with that?

I don't know how it works down in Harriosnburgville, but at Towson, the campus police got hard ons when they found out they had caught an athlete making the smallest mistake. Baltimore County cops too. An investigation should be made into what Peter Rose did, but everything else will/should end up being dropped. People getting into fights is an everyday thing, just watch youtube.

Jeez, been away for over a day to come back to this. Figured there would be a thread on this started by someone from another CAA school- no reason to air your own dirty laundry off of your own school's board.

Like people weren't going to find out about it or something? Tell your beat writer to not publicly post this kind of ish on twitter if people (and who they support) discussing it is such a problem.

Actually, got an email from my google news feed with the article, I don't go to the CAAZone. I guess the JMU kids on the Zone shouldn't have posted the article over there either, anyone can read that thread, why air our dirty laundry? First lesson of PR, get out in front of the story before someone else can. Lighten up Francis.

Yep. I don't go to CAAZone either. The way I found out was Barber's twitter feed. And SLL is right, this was getting out anyway. We're not Alabama popular but we're not Little Sisters of the Poor either.

Exactly, like it would have better if someone from another school posted it first. You really think somebody from Richmond or Delaware would have been nicer with it? Joo posted when the riots happened last spring, too, would that have been better coming from an Appy?

Kids got drunk, shit went down, somebody got hospitalized, arrests were made. If these weren't football players, especially one with a prior history, this would have received absolutely no attention from anyone.

None of us here (or on the CAA Zone where this has been discussed ad nauseum) know the facts and we shouldn't pass judgement until the facts come out and they have had their day in court which I imagine will be around this spring or summer. Remember the Duke lacrosse case.

Course I know you'all posters from other schools reacted with glee when you heard this news and have already passed judgement that they are guilty as charged.

In any case where players have been arrested and charged with a felony they should (and I imagine about everywhere) are at least suspended indefinitely. But they shouldn't be kicked off the team, have their schollies revoked, and/or expelled from JMU until they have had their day in court.

Now IF any are convicted of felonies, then of course they should and will be kicked off the team, stripped of their schollies, and likely expelled from JMU, and of course might be sentenced to jail/prison time.

If any are convicted of misdemeaners, if they have a clean record (including at JMU) then I imagine in addition to any punishment from the legal system, it will be along be along the line of a game or games suspensions. Now since Peter Rose already is on thin ice due to his prior marijuana conviction before coming to JMU if he is convicted of anything, even misdemeanor, he should and will likely be gone from JMU.

If any are aquitted Miceky and the AD Bourne can still levy a punishment if they think the facts warrant it.

I'm going to wait till the facts come out in court before passing judgement on these guys.

What's funny is that just about everyone on this thread agrees with you. Lots of comments about unclear things and "we'll see how this plays out", so I'm unclear what you are annoyed about?

Just stating my opinion of lets let the facts and trial come out before we pass judgment. Not directed at any one person in particular.

Ask Allen Iverson about that. He should be thoroughly familiar with what constitutes a mob. Pulled some hefty time for assault and maiming by mob.

The problem for these guys is that they, apparently, organized themselves to go finish a dispute that, apparently, had not come to blows, and did not initially involve three of them. Plenty of time for any one of them to say "ya know, maybe we should let this go", but they went the other way. Given their position in the community they should have, and could have known better.

The facts are not known, and among what's not known is how serious the injuries were to the one that ended up in the hospital, and how those injuries were received. Did he just lose a fist fight? Was he hit with anything other than fists? How many people hit him? Was he kicked when already down? Maybe what these four did isn't as bad as the charges make it seem...or maybe what they did was worse. Hope they've got a good lawyer because beyond the criminal charges, this one may have the potential for civil liability as well.

Good point. What's the chance it was started by a vitriolic JMU fan in the stands in Richmond on November 6th and finished 9 days later? :o

HARRISONBURG - Four James Madison University football players have been arrested and charged with felonies stemming from an assault last month, according to the Harrisonburg Police Department.

Junior safety Jonathan Williams, junior safety Jonathan Rose and sophomore safety Peter Rose were all charged with malicious wounding by mob after an incident on Nov. 15. Freshman wide receiver Anthony Rose was charged with conspiracy to commit malicious wounding by mob, also a felony.

The three brothers were arrested on Dec. 3. Williams was arrested separately the next day.

According to HPD spokesperson Mary-Hope Vass, the charges stem from "a verbal argument that then lead to three male victims being assaulted."

One was taken to Rockingham Memorial Hospital. The other two victims were not hospitalized.

A source characterized the one victim's injuries as "significant" and said he was knocked unconscious and suffered broken bones.

The source said Anthony Rose - the youngest of the group - was not involved in the actual assault. The source said one of the suspects - he declined to say which one - got into a verbal dispute at party, then phone for the other three suspects to come to his aide

Pretty sure there was questions about bringing Peter Rose to JMU based on some drug charges. Soooo, there goes JMU's secondary....
:ohno:

Sad that these kids can't make smarter decisions. If I had a full scholarship to play D-1 football the only thing I'd be doing outside of going to class and football practice would be bibal study.
