That is a shame, but there was no other way to go...the program is a sinking ship but it wasn't Lavan's fault.

Lavan was hired with DSU telling him and everyone that they were going I-A/FBS. He won..and built the team under that premise. Then, after realizing the foolishness of their FBS aspirations, the DSU administration and BOD threw him and the program under the bus.

DSU football might as well go away...along with the entire group of fools that constitute the school's BOD - a bunch of backward's thinking crooks. The school is bleeding money and just lost several high profile lawsuits regarding their sports teams. Cue the clown music.

Good luck finding a coach.

What if I have more personalities than that?

I would support a wholesale change at DSU. That same BOD was the one that ran Sessoms out of town. Because he was "changing things" at the University. They wanted to keep things "as they were". But the best thing about backwards thinkers, they are old and will eventually all die soon.

I don't know whether to curse Al Lavan for giving Southern a win or be happy for said win.

Not a competitive sign for the upcoming UD/DSU series starting in September.

Actually I would argue that if the new coach could have an impact similar to Jenkins at BCU after Wyatt was fired...this series could be MORE competitive than it was with UD on the cusp of making a national title run and DSU heading towards the cellar of the MEAC.

DSURocks & Cluck, you nailed it. I stopped pulling for DSU when they ran Sessoms out of town. The Wilmington alums who pull the strings are the school's absolute worst enemy. They can't help but keep the school in the dark ages.

Whatever. DSU just lost a good man and cut Lavan a huge solid in the process. Now he can go find a job with a school run by capable administrators who actually support athletics.

Op-ed piece in UD's News Journal:

http://www.delawareonline.com/article/2 ... RTSOPINION
It is easy to sympathize with Al Lavan, who discovered he was fired as coach of Delaware State's football team on Thursday morning.

That's because Lavan has poured his heart and soul into turning the Hornets into a consistent contender in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference since he took over the football program back in 2004.

In fact, he was originally supposed to be the coach -- the first major hire by then-university president Dr. Allen Sessoms -- who would spearhead the Hornets' move to Division I-A football, where Sessoms harbored dreams of playing the Notre Dames, Floridas and Penn States of the world at a new 30,000-plus seat stadium in Dover.
