Catholic Church and having babies
Re: Catholic Church and having babies
Following up on Andy's thoughts, let me add this. The issue of couples, particularly young couples, who are not having children and using birth control is NOT a novel issue in American Catholicism. Pastors are aware of the issue.
Many parishes offer "young couples" groups which confront this very challenge, among other challenges, faced by young married couples. Couples who are resistant to having children are not pressured to have children under threats of being removed from the church. They are encouraged to re-think their position with respect to birth control and adopt natural family planning.
Priests, however, readily respect and accept that a young couple may not want to have children, but priests encourage them to be open to the prospect of having children in the future, i.e., perhaps their statement that they do not want children means only that they are not ready to have children. The idea is that they may and probably will feel differently in the future.
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (headed by Cardinal George no less) has published texts which are to be used by parish "young couples" groups and it is consistent with what I stated above. Couples who do not want to have children are encouraged to stay with the Church and to be open in the future to having children.
So the whole story has a ring of non-authenticity for these reasons too.

Liar Joe's MO from day one. Dude can't explain the absurdity of his church and religion, so he argues spelling, grammer and semantics. Trust me, this thread will end with Liar Joe arguing the existence of god using principles found not in christianity but in eastern mysticism - it's all he can do.OSBF wrote:I get what's going on here. Its easier to attack the semantics and in-correct use of terminology than it is to just answer the question. Deflection is a classic defense mechanism around here. The longer you can deflect, the longer you can go without answering any real questions about real issues.
The catholic church is a fucking joke.
"Sarah Palin absolutely blew AWAY the audience tonight. If there was any doubt as to whether she was savvy enough, tough enough or smart enough to carry the mantle of Vice President, she put those fears to rest tonight. She took on Barack Obama DIRECTLY on every issue and exposed... She did it with warmth and humor, and came across as the every-person....it's becoming mroe and more clear that she was a genius pick for McCain."

It wasn't just a bishop doing this, but an archbishop; but because this is Chicago, that's not just an archbishop there, but one of only six American bishops who is a Cardinal; and not just any one of those six Cardinals, but Cardinal Francis George, the most noteworthy and significant of the American Cardinals -- a theologian of world-wide renown and the face of American Catholicism to the world.
So Cardinal Francis George is personally excommunicating OSBF's newphew and his very hot young wife with a killer body.
Hysterical.

I was hardly bullied when I was a kid. I mentioned one kid who was two years older than me who was giving me a hard time, and I just jumped him. He was bigger than me and was able to pin me twice, but I was able to draw blood from his nose, and he left me alone after that. This happened when I was in 5th grade. That hardly constitutes a life-time of being bullied.D1B wrote:Not a fixation. You admitted being bullied in another thread recently. Fact.JoltinJoe wrote:

You want to create some cartoon character of me. You say shot like I'm arrogant, or I lie, etc. All because you have some hard-on for Catholicism.
Fact is, I've always been well-liked and have managed to keep close friends, to this date, since my grammar school days, high school days, baseball teams, college, and law school. In high school, I figured out that almost everyone was a little unsure of where they stood on the social strata -- even the kids who seemed to have the world by the balls. So I would always do small things to let someone know that they were cool by me and if someone else thought they were worthless because they were a burnout, or a geek, or a dumb jock, it wasn't me. I was cool with your because you were my classmate. I took blame for other kids when I didn't have to; took the heat when I knew who did something, and wouldn't tell. Our Vice Principal had me in detention one week for several days because this teacher knew I saw something and wouldn't say what happened. He finally asked me why I wouldn't just give up the information, and I said it wasn't my job to discipline anyone, or assist him in doing it. He told me I was doing the right thing and sent me home.
So you ought to just lay off, because I'm cool with you too. You know, you used to be a much more thoughtful poster, with some interesting comments (although not necessarily correct, IMO), but now you've just become some crazed fringe internet nut who repeats the most obviously false statements. Honestly, this board has become tedious in its pointless repetition and frivolity. You could once have an intelligent discussion here on many subjects, and you were a key contributor.
