I don't see how anyone but Taiwan Jones should be on the Walter Payton Watch List. He looked better than Armanti Edwards did last year.

When will the Griz convert a 3rd down?
Perhaps get a Rushing TD?
Have a drive longer than 3 minutes to let the Defense rest?
Show some urgency?
When will they start hanging onto the ball?
When will they stop trading field goals for touchdowns?
When will they stop giving up defensive touchdowns?
When will they decide on a QB?

Also, as people on eGriz are saying, Jimmy Wilson needs to start. Dodson got burned tonight.

Well BSTV isn't HD...and neither is KPAX. Looked pretty shitty...but atleast you could tell you were watching a COLOR TV tonight and not the usual black and white.SDHornet wrote:How did the red jersey's on red turf look on HD BigSkyTV?

Re: #6 UM @ #18 EWU Game Thread
I like Selle. I've known him since 7th grade, and I graduated with him at West in 2006. I want him to be our starting QB, and I'm behind him all the way.grizzaholic wrote:Ummm...YES! And why didn't Roper start? Selle looked like he forgot he was playing football and wanted to play Cricket tonight.
But he does not look like the answer this new offense needs. If Jordan Johnson is the best QB to run this offense, then I say we give him a shot. We shouldn't be thinking about 2014 right now.
Also, happy I can be on here before all the EWU blowhards get home from the game. This is not going to be a fun week.

Put your personal feelings aside for one fucking second... He is your friend...good for you. Selle cannot run a fast paced offense and Roper can. But it seems, maybe just to me, Roper kind of gives up on some plays if the Griz are down and trying to come back...then on others he looks great and wants to be the leader. Selle is either on point or completely lost. We have 2 QB's that are with it or might as well be the towel boy.uofmman1122 wrote:I like Selle. I say we burn the redshirt and see what happens. Nothing will be wasted...and we could have a QB for almost a full 4 years.

The Griz look iffy, but a lot of highly-touted teams have shown even more chinks in their armor. September is not the time to panic; this EWU game figured to be tough even if the Griz weren't having these synchronicity issues. Montana still has 8 games left and can certainly win them all, none of them are against world beaters.
Turnovers win & lose games. The Griz won't be stopped if they quit the lazy turnovers, and I'm sure the team knows it. Keeping the run-first approach they used today should make this easier. Oh, and have Peter Nguyen carry a football with him 24-hours-a-day or something.
As for the QB issues. You could bench Selle, but then you'd have to start Roper, and Roper hasn't proven he should have the job. Taking Jordan Johnson off redshirt would be crazy at this point. I find it hard to believe a true freshman could be better than what we've seen thus far, plus you'd be practically conceding a non-playoff season and wasting part of the kid's eligibility in the process. If the currently playing team members can't get the job done, then it's not gonna get done.

I'm not disagreeing with you at all. In fact, I point out the fact that he's my friend to make it even clearer. He's struggling, and I don't think he should start. Roper hasn't made me feel any better, though.

Yeah. I put in a formal complaint and they told me to reboot this and reload that...basically said its my comp that it is not working. I did that, then said it is still down. I get a response to do the stuff that didn't work again. Then on my thrid complaint, they said it is something at the stadium and they put up a "technical difficulties" message on the stream. HAHAHAHA....Don't you know. It is never anyone else's fault for their technology not working? It is always your damn fault because you don't know how to use it properly or your computer is broken or your internet isn't fast enough....I got that last one when I was on a T-1 connection. This guy told me on the phone that his fancy web page wouldn't process my order because my machine wasn't fast enough and/or my internet was too slow. I ordered from someone else and paid more. Not worth the trouble.SDHornet wrote:Yeah. I put in a formal complaint and they told me to reboot this and reload that...basically said its my comp that it is not working. Except Roper came in today and didn't fix it (went 0/2, nearly threw a pick-6). Selle then returned and led the team on a 96-yard TD drive.grizzaholic wrote: So we start off the game next week again with Selle and have him over throw every guy? Yeah great job. Better for the future, possibly… Better for now, probably not. If there's one thing I've noticed about rookie QBs over the years, it's that they usually suck. Cole Bergquist (the only Griz freshman QB to become the main starter in decades) looked good at the end of his career, but he was mediocre at best in 2005—and that was after a redshirt year. Quarterback probably has more of an experience curve than any other position. If the coaches feel Johnson is actually the best option (I don't now what Zapata's health status is), you'll probably see him play at some point. I doubt that will happen, though. If the kid is a gamer and either wants to be a leader or wants to lead I say let him. The more experience he gets now the better. Why not let him show what he can do? The bottom line is that the players—and coaches—need to manage the game better. I was particularly confused by the short-yardage play-calling. There was one series where Reynolds ran twice for 9 yards, then the team lined up in a 4-wide shotgun and ran a spread option w/ Roper (he was stuffed). There was also the toss play on 2nd.-&-goal from the 1 near the end when all the O needed to do was fall forward for a TD. If the Griz score there, they most likely win the game. Instead, it was 3rd.-&-goal from the 5 and eventually a field goal.

Sounds like some awful play calls there.
Nothing worse than when a coach out thinks himself. Just go with what is working. Run it until they stop it. Sperbeck seemed to follow that game plan tonight with a heavy dose of Hilliard all night long. To Sperbeck's credit, he did throw in some plays where he would be a genius if they worked, or a bum if they didn't...they worked tonight.

This likely isn't going to happen, but it's entirely possible that the Griz could go 1-10 and still end up with a positive scoring margin.grizzaholic wrote:The Griz have been scoring and piling up yards. Close losses...unlike getting stomped.Grizo406 wrote:
