China Passes Japan As World's Second Largest Economy

The milestone, though anticipated for some time, is the most striking evidence yet that China’s ascendance is for real and that the rest of the world will have to reckon with a new economic superpower.

The recognition came early Monday, when Tokyo said that Japan’s economy was valued at about $1.28 trillion in the second quarter, slightly below China’s $1.33 trillion. Japan’s economy grew 0.4 percent in the quarter, Tokyo said, substantially less than forecast. That weakness suggests that China’s economy will race past Japan’s for the full year.

Experts say unseating Japan — and in recent years passing Germany, France and Great Britain — underscores China’s growing clout and bolsters forecasts that China will pass the United States as the world’s biggest economy as early as 2030. America’s gross domestic product was about $14 trillion in 2009.

Just a few years until we're a second rate country being dragged around by our nose rings as we've been doing to every other nation since 1900.

In 100 years we will be the new Poland.

You can thank your boy obama for that. Or maybe the gays...not too sure which.

Just heading back to a bipolar world, with the US and China as the two biggies. The gap between them and the 3rd place economy is incredibly vast. It'll be like the US/USSR days, except this time, with the fact that the US and China are so intertwined economically that one can't fall without the other, it'll be a lot less adversarial. What will be interesting in the next 100 years is what becomes of Europe - where do they end up through all of this?

If we're talking next 100 years, I'm guessing a war will be in there somewhere.

Europe will be Muslim and dominated by the descendants of the Arab and North African hordes who are overrunning it now. They will turn it into a shit hole of primitive superstition just like the homelands they left.

Remember, though, that Christians have turned America into a land of primitive superstition.

Yes, but we still have the U.S. Constitution (for what that is still worth); the muzzies have Sharia. Big difference.

The only time Europe hasn't been at war was when US troops were stationed there after ww2

We're all fvcked. Too many people on the planet. Overpopulation has a strong grip on our throats. Virtually all of the problems we talk about in this forum relate back to overpopulation. Religion plays a HUGE part in in, too.

Eh, just saying, I'm pretty sure sex plays a pretty big role in the whole overpopulation thing, dontcha think? People have been having sex a long time before any religion came around, and will keep having it a long time after it's gone. :thumb:

China has four times our population. I'm surprised they haven't passed us yet -- in that meaningless economic statistic.
