Sales Recognition

Post by CatMom »

A list was posted to show the top 75 U's in sales of their programs gear (collegiate merchandise.) Here's the top FCS teams, although you will note some are most likely where they are because of basketball, not football.
51 - Montana
52 - Georgetown
68 - Villanova
69 - Texas State
70 - U of Delaware
73 - Southern Illinois
75 - James Madison

No App St.? That's interesting. Did you know they beat Michigan?

In all seriousness, I would've thought that the national notoriety gained by the Michigan win and the three-peat would have them high. Do you have a link?

I was (kind of :? ) thinking the same thing - I don't know if this is merchandise sold directly by the university (i.e. at the bookstore) or elsewhere. I have a ton of ASU gear, but nearly zero was bought on campus.

Nevermind, this one's more recent and I think it's the list CatMom has:

http://www.clc.com/clcweb/publishing.ns ... +2009-2010" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Upon further review, it is not:
Top-75 Universities
(55.) The University of Montana
(64.) Georgetown University
(71.) Villanova University
(74.) University of Delaware
(75.) James Madison University

I'm sure this is only counting licensed gear. I'm surprised UD is as high as it is, as you couldn't even buy branded (i.e. Nike when we were Nike) football gear until we switched to Under Armour two seasons ago. Now Nike realizes the error of their ways and even decided to produce a retro Joe Flacco replica jersey this year (which for my fellow UD fans is currently on special for <$40 at National 5 and 10 :thumb: ).

These are from CLC which is the big mamma jamma for all NCAA licensing.

BTW, I guess CatMom's might be the fourth quarter of 09-10, but I can't find that on the CLC site.

Isn't unlicensed gear a small portion of the market. CLC is HUUUUGE on enforcement.

But, I found out the catch. CLC does not represent ASU. So, they're not on the list.

Here's a client list:

If the sales were for 2007 then ASU's Michigan victory probably had a significate effect and sales to non-ASU fans such as Ohio State and Michigan State. Since then probably not so much and App State unfortunately sells little via the basketball program.

Well, JMU sells practically nothing via the basketball program. I don't have any trouble admitting that ASU is still more popular/well-known nationwide than JMU. I think the issue is as stated above, they're not a CLC client, so they're not on the list. IF they were a client, they'd be on there.

UNI will NEVER be on this list.

Even in Cedar Falls it is tough to get good UNI gear. The local Scheels has two or three times as many Iowa and Iowa State shirts/hats/gear than they do the in city school.

The school really pumped out S16 gear, but outside of that there isn't a lot of real options floating around for UNI. From what I hear UNI or the company that owns the licensing for UNI doesn't release it for much production. Hopefully that starts to change though.

Like I said, we were right there with you two years ago. Once we switched to UA, you can get all kinds of cool football gear now. Nike seems to not give two shits about FCS, but UA does. UA puts a heckuva lot more attention into an FCS program and its fans than Nike does. :twocents: Of course, it probably doesn't hurt that UA is trying to steal share and they are only an hour down the road in Baltimore with at least one UD alum pretty high up with them, from what I've heard.

UA also doesn't do nearly as much for the basketball programs that Nike does. With the program that UNI has had since 2003, being with Nike is pretty damn nice.

I do agree with UA doing a lot more with FCS, and across all divisions, than Nike/Adidas do.
