A game against Houston is winnable. Three straight wins do not guarantee a fourth. Given the presence of Houston (an FBS), a D-II shouldn't hurt too bad so long as you win. A toss-up is NOT a loss.

You may not be as far away from the playoffs as you think.
Last year I was cautiously optimistic about the season. Then injuries struck hard and heavy. We return a lot of skill players on O and picked up some great transfers but we have a QB situation to deal with. Improved D will help. Lots of returners there and a few transfers, also.
SUU has our #. We were 3-2 (but those were games from the 90's) now we're 3-5 (or something). It's like UCA....took us 4 tries to beat them.
We hold the lead over CP but those are history too. (last meeting was 2006) and they have a tough schedule. I think it all hinges on how the team gels under a new QB.
I don't think anyone will match us for backfield in the SLC. We are too deep there.
I'm going to err on the side of greater caution this year, until I see the team play. I can't make any two-a-days this year, so it will have to wait until a few games in.

When we were putting the database together last summer I noticed a real lack of information out there on the web for MEAC and SWAC teams so that may be what's hindering you a bit.

Hell, I sent emails to most Athletic Dept's in those conferences and I got exactly 0 responses from them.
I can probably get you more info on SWAC teams than most of the AD's can. I can help in any way i can.

If you want to lurk around the MEAC go here.

I agree that SDSU has one of the more brutal schedules in the FCS. However, Jacks haven't scheduled themselves out of playoffs.

A team that schedules two FBS game, and a non-counter game whether NAIA, D-II, D-III, then those are likely scheduled out unless the FCS school gets a least one FBS win. Cal Poly and UC-Davis, SE LA are three that fit this category.

The bottom team of the CAA, Towson would have to beat 6 top 25 pre-season picks to make it to the play-offs, can we say that they have scheduled themselves out of the play-offs? Likewise, Ind St and Savannah St have scheduled two or more non-counter games so they are scheduled out of the play-offs. The SWAC teams have either scheduled only 9 or 10 games for the season, have a non-counter on the schedule, and can only make the play-off as a #2 in a half of their division, so will have a min. of two losses in conference, so again no SWAC team in the play-offs.

Is Towson still in the CAA? If so, you can add them to the list.

I should have thought of that. :D

Problem was we were trying to keep it a surprise and spring it on everybody so we kept it close. One thing you could do is that if you ever see any information that is missing or incorrect on the SWAC database is to start a thread on the "Content Submission" board and it will get updated to reflect the information.

There's a lot of holes in the MEAC that would be nice to get filled in as well.

I don't think so. I'm pretty sure they dropped football in the mid 90's or even earlier.

I wouldn't categorize us as "scheduled out" of the playoffs by any means...yes, we have two FBS schools and a non-counter on our schedule, but we could still get to 7 D-I wins and still not win the league, provided someone else goes undefeated...and it's not like we have BCS schools on our schedule either...both Tulane and ULM are beatable, and no different than scheduling two better FCS schools...I like our schedule actually and I like our chances of making our first playoff appearance.

Wait wait wait...Towson has a football team?

Weber State has a brutal road, but its still doable. Same with SDSU. Towson just by being in the CAA

That said...its really going to be a rough road for both of those schools with football programs. Weber State has been going for the money over the easy route each year, which is easy to understand. They're going to have to basically rip up the Big Sky to get in this year though...and I don't see them as good as they were last year. SDSU will be an interesting case. They were extremely solid last year and look better this year...but that schedule won't be favorable. If they're able to do enough to get into the playoffs I'd hate to be the team to face them.

Weber's scheduling FBS games is not its problem. They remain in control of their destiny. Their real problems are that they are not the best team in the BSC, they embarrassed themselves and their conference with their playoff performance last year, and they do not draw at home. Fix those things; quit worrying about the OOC schedule.
