Montana coaching pay issue?

Post by dbackjon »

Apparently the Montana Board of regents has told Montana that the new coach can't make more than Montana State's coach.

Brilliant. We're on the bottom end of FCS as is, so we decide to go lower.

That's always been the rule in Montana, the coaches are state employees and are paid about the same doesn't matter whether it's FB, BB, whatever. In similar fashion the two university presidents are paid about the same, though MSU's new pres who will take over beginning next week was given a higher pay making her the states highest paid employee which I'd guess will mean the um pres will be seeing a pay hike down the road.

Dennison is not the only person that gets a raise because of what the new MSU president will be making, Shiela Stearns, Commissioner of Higher Education, also will be getting a pay boost. It has more to do with the wording the in contracts of Dennison and Stearns than the BOR and state keeping pay similar. Both Dennison and Stearns had wording put into thier contracts that would pay them within a certain percentage of the similar postion down the road (in the case of Dennison), and a percentage greater than either position (in the case of Stearns). I also wonder how the BOR can control private donations and fundraising to the point that it can not be used to sweeten the salary like is being reported.
