You Montana guys really have little clue what football is in the Northeast, especially non-BCS college football.
Its a whole different story.
Villanova could have spent $1 million on advertising for one game alone and they still would not have packed that stadium for that game. Its just not going to happen. Especially in sub 20-degree weather.

Congrats Villanova
Good thing this game was on TV last night so fewer people probably tuned in.
Adding to the stereotype that FCS games are lame and no one cares.

They also aren't going to advertise something they can't advertise. This was an NCAA event. They do it all. shame our team can't get any support. I'll be in Chatty though and don't give two fucks what anyone has to say about the game our support or otherwise. Every 20000 person stadium in the country didn't do enough to get those teams to the dance so this is what you saw. The fans don't play the games.

Army-Navy is mystique. And they start at 9,000 because all cadets are forced to attend.

So, mystique draws 65,000 people? I would guess there's a lot more Villanova grads in Philly than there are Army or Navy grads....so don't blame 20 degree weather for the attendance....danefan wrote:Apples and oranges AZ.AZGrizFan wrote:

Why wouldn't I blame the weather? What does that have to do with the Army/Navy game?
Its sunny and about 20 degrees warmer in Philly today than it was last night.
And yes, I'm 1000000000% sure that mystique and service branch pride draws 65,000.
I know people that don't go to any other football game all year or watch it on TV (not high school, college, nfl or anything) and they have been going to Army Navy every year since the 70's.

15 times the population. 20 degrees warmer. Yeah, I can see why the greater Philadelphia area is not going to put as many fans in the stadium as the Missoula, MT, area.danefan wrote:You Montana guys really have little clue what football is in the Northeast, especially non-BCS college football.

All college football besides BCS thrives in small towns. Why can't you guys realize that.
Name a non-BCS team that thrives in a heavily populated area?
I honestly cannot think of one single team.

If you really want to break it down, the fact that Montana only draws 22000 is disgraceful, when State College , PA has 25,000 less people in it and outdraws Montana by 80000.

Simple economics...
Even if you are not a Montana grad, there's no other professional football, or basketball teams competing for your time or entertainment dollar in Missoula...there's no FBS teams competing with you...the Griz games are a great place to go...
Villanova is a private school...grads are all over the country, not concentrated in Philly...Unless you are a "Nova grad, you might have tickets for the Eagles, or the 76ers...or the Flyers...and there's only so much disposable income to go around
If you're a Penn State grad (who most likely outnumber 'Nova grads in the area), why would you attend a 'Nova game...
This constant dick measuring with attendance figures does not take into account different circumstances for different schools...
Put Montana in Philly...with everything else equal...and your attendance figures would be the same...

And ALL that being said, it's simply amazing that there's not 10,000 people in a city of 1.8 million people who want to go view a college football playoff game. Really. Amazing.Col Hogan wrote: Well, Missoula isn't Philly...or Long Island...or Boston...so why do you try and compare them...

And Col., it's not about "dick measuring", it's about the impression a crowd like that leaves on the rest of America NOT exposed to FCS football...it's fucking embarrassing. There wasn't a SINGLE crowd shot last night, and the camera couldn't get ENOUGH of the crowd at the game tonight. It was like the games weren't even at the same level of football...

When you walk around an FCS campus, and there are as many students wearing shirts of hats from near-by FBS schools (right UNI, TxSt, and others)...or you have small private schools where alums are from all over the place (Villanova, Richmond) or small public schools (W&M, Weber) or predominately basketball schools (UMass, SIU)...you won't have the big crowds like Montana or ASU...
