NCAA Football
Should the NCAA allow schools to play football at a lower level then the rest of its sports programs in an effort to limit the loss of programs?

No. however, that makes it for a tricky situation regarding FCS. How is FCS treated when there is no FCS in any other sport?

Wasn't that rule set up because of the likes of Dayton, who would use their basketball income to fund football (eg. hire better coaches) and then beat up on their D3 opponents?

JHU plays DIII football team but has a DI lacrosse team (not sure about their other sports)...

That would be like being d2 in all sports but having a D1 ping pong team.

They should be allowed to play down one division, IMO.
Division II teams with Division I bball teams wouldn't have a huge advantage against DII teams that fully fund their programs and don't have Division I bball teams.
Division I teams shouldn't be allowed to play in Division III for football though.

I say no. Schools should have to make the commitment to all athletics which they intend to field. If you want football and basketball, you fund them both. If you can't afford them both, you make the decision and cut out the weight. It sucks for fans of those programs, and the student-athletes who are affected, but collegiate athletics are a part of the grown up world. That means sometimes making a hard decision.

But you may be wrong concerning JHU's lacrosse program 'interfering' with their other sports. Their lacrosse program is one of the best in the country competing every year with the likes if Syracuse, Maryland, Virginia, Georgetown, Princeton, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if that was in fact the schools biggest athletic money maker, and that the school spends more money on the lacrosse program than any other athletic program.
