Sanctions on Iran.

Russia recently reversed its position of opposition to sanctions on Iran. That makes 4 out of the 5 countries in the UN with veto power in support of sanctions against Iran. If we could convince China to make a similar reversal it would be HUGE.

I'm not saying it will happen or that I expect it to happen... and I know that's what your question asked... But, I think this is the reasoning behind the "snub." Obama will meet with the Dalai Lama down the road, I'm sure.
I heard he threw in some American only DVD's and an Ipod with all this speeches in the meantime to hold the Dalai Lama over.

I believe gays were to first to jump off the Obama bandwagon because he didn't issue an executive order mandating buggery within an hour of his inauguration.

Question - what has all the meetings with the Dalai Lama ever accomplished? Tibet is still under the Chinese thumb, more and more Hanized, and being turned into a Buddhist tourist attraction.

And like Cuba, people forget that Tibet was never FREE - it was a feudal, dictorial, theocratic state, with very, very poor peasants that were subservient to the Buddhist Monks.

Credit where credit is due, skelly. You actually make a point about Hawaii. The comparison fails quickly, though, considering the thousands of Tibetans murdered by the PRC.

The domino theory proved quite correct in the cases of Laos and Cambodia, at the cost of MILLIONS of lives of innocent non-combatant human beings.

Who gives a fok? How many American lives were lost? How's the communist regime doing in the former Soviet Union? Do we import & export goods to Cambodia & Laos? If so, why since they are communists? If not, is because they are communists or because they don't have anything we want or need? That theory has been proven bogus, join the rest of us in the 21st century....

Only a news story when it can be trumped up as a "snub."

When they do meet, it's barely a blip on the radar.
