There was no reason for the Canadian tariffs. pre-trump, Canadian tariffs on US goods were pretty low and not that different from US tariffs on Canadian goods. The whole fentanyl argument is bullshit meant to cover up something else. Maybe some Canadian building department wonk probably turned down trump's bribe and didn't issue him a permit to build a casino for him to bankrupt.

Fair trade? The failed soviet experiment confirmed that the free market is more efficient then a person or people. When did you become a socialist?
Lol you‘re a lot :dunce: than I thought you were if you think the failed Soviet experiment had anything to do with Fair Trade.
The soviet economy was a command economy kind of like the one chairman trump is trying to create with the tariffs. He and you are advocating for an element of socialism.

You are becoming what you profess to hate.

Keeping tax rates the same isn‘t a cut.
A slowdown in the rate of growth isn’t a cut. If a government program spends more $$$ one year than it did the prior year (or more $$$ after 10 years since we‘re talking 10 year outlays here), there isn‘t a cut unless you are doing the special math that all the donks, and a lot of conks, do in DC.
That's your opinion.

Voting to continue a tax cut that was set to expire is voting for a tax cut.

Tax cuts have to be offset by spending cuts or other savings. I believe that they skipped that for trump's original tax cuts because they were temporary. Now that they're making them permanent they should have to find the offset. Have or are they finding those offsets?

Does Donald Trump Know He Has Lost His Trade War?
His trade war has already created something akin to the largest tax hike in post-war U.S. history, according to J.P. Morgan analysis. Even after the rollbacks and pauses, economists at the bank wrote in a briefing to clients that “the trade war shock is still material... we now estimate an effective ex-ante tariff rate of 14.4%. This is akin to a $475bn tax hike on US households and businesses, worth 1.6% of GDP (still sitting close to the largest tax hike in the post WWII period).”
...
As Paul Krugman, a Nobel-winning trade economist, pointed out Friday, the trade war never ended: “Even after Trump’s ‘climbdown’ we’re still looking at a shock to the economy 7 or 8 times as big as Smoot-Hawley, the previous poster child for destructive tariff policy.” At its current 30% tariff rate, Krugman estimates that trade with China will drop by 65%.

Trump is now saying he wants to take a policy and make it more economically destructive. The “announce, cave, tough statement, re-announce” cycle has been a constant of this administration’s trade policy.

Paul "breaking windows stimulate the economy" Krugman? Image

Also, where was this outrage from him when Biden maintained the previous Trump tariffs that were in place during his administration? A 10% increase in tariffs from the previous 20% results in a 65% drop on Chinese imports? ImageImageImage

I will never take that partisan hack seriously, ever.

trump, bessent, lutnick, etc. are all partisan hacks. I guess we don't have to take them seriously either.

The roller coaster ride has not ended. We have more ups and downs ahead. trump will stay true to his MO and take credit for the ups while blaming others for the downs. He's never, ever responsible for bad news or results.

trump takes it to another level.

Give me an example of him taking responsibility for something bad that happened on his watch.

A way to defeat blue state/city sanctuary laws. Of course the TDS crowd will get the vapors even though this only targets previously deported criminal illegal aliens already in local jails.
