Well by that measure of “encouraging” you can say the same thing for every modern President.

1.) Increase border security.

2). Jail illegal employers.

3). Improve conditions in the countries illegal immigrants are coming from.
That won’t do anything for the majority of illegals who are seeking out and turning themselves into BP, then uttering the magic asylum words and kicked loose into the interior with an NTA years down the road. Reinstating Remain in Mexico as we had under Trump would put an end to this, but Brandon and his stooge Mayorkus won’t do it.
...because most illegals just fly in and overstay their visa. How come we aren't hearing anything about the half-million European illegals here, BD?

Meh…sometimes it works, sometimes it’s a mixed bag, sometimes it’s a failure depending on who it goes to (governments, NGO’s, international organizations, etc).

From the perspective of oil and banana companies it’s been a great success.
Do you know what keeps Puerto Ricans in Puerto Rico? It ain’t the scenery. It’s the “Lifestyle” created by Dems . Free food, free place to live and god knows what other freebies they can get. You take that away from and Puerto Ricans would be almost empty
...and where would they be otherwise? NYC?

Why should we pay to fix other countries? They should do that themselves. I used to be a supporter of immigration now I think we should lock our borders down with military and not let anyone in for 20 years. This invasion is a direct assault on our country and when the bad stuff happens because of it I will not be on your side crying about the atrocity I will be laughing and saying I told you so.
.....remember how well received by Texas Obama's offer of troops was?

Puerto Ricans steer clear of Miami for the most part and yes it’s because of all the Cubans, they don’t like to share their Latiness with others Latins

We want immigrants but it's a question of how many and with what skill sets.

If we want to limit the number of immigrants, why only focus on one possible deterrent (employers)? Why not secure the border, end catch and release, etc. as well?

It helps, and of course we should do it. Cracking down on businesses should be one of the easier things to do.

With that said, I do disagree with your other point - the one that if there's no work to be had here then illegal immigration would stop. Folks will, and have been, coming to America in droves regardless if there's work or not. As much as we gripe about things, America is a virtual oasis compared to most of the rest of the world. People want to come here even if there's no promise of work - there's just so much more benefits for them and their families that override staying where they are or trying to migrate somewhere else. If the past 3 years have shown us anything, once folks know they can get into this country without too much resistance, they will come here in in record numbers, jobs or no jobs.

Two other issues are the birth rate and declining middle class wealth. There may be no better place to be poor (as the tired saying goes) but it’s also been tough to maintain an American standard of living and reasonably early retirement with dignity.

Lower paying jobs don’t support either but we still need the workers.

The Boomers were just a single generation slowing down period.

And as time marches on they will become more and more desperate and willing to risk more and more resistance, and it will still be better than what they left behind.

What I see happening right here where I've lived for the past 40 years is an increased number of Mexican-owned businesses and economic impact, some definitely come to stay, but even more come seasonally to work the orchards and send money home - work as many seasons as needed then hand the gig off to another family member and go back home to build their house. I'll agree that the local picture is rosey compared to the national scene but things would be different around here if we had to pay Americans to do the labor in the orchards and fields. I take your point but I believe that there are a significant amount that are here because they are following the work and that if the work were in Brazil thats where they would be.

They see Biden as weak and they are not wrong. illegal immigration always picks up with a Dem in the WH, but what’s going on right now is 100% on Joeys DHS elitist pompous stooge Mayorkas and it’s just embarrassing.

How relatively good things are here compared to where they come from can be an effect of US policies in their home country, too. Fair trade policies that keep bananas affordable and still generate profit while paying a living wage in Central America shouldn't be that hard to do, its working in the coffee industry - you could call it trickle-down and let the conks take credit.
