2/26-2/28 Games/Scoreboard

Post by BDKJMU »

So no one is confused as to what week it is...Fri-Sun 30 games were scheduled (excluding cancelled MEAC/SWAC, 5 postponed so far, NCAA link doesn't show postponed Bryant/URI). 7 games of most interest IMHOP, all times ECB.

-RMU @ JMU (1-0) (Noon, NBC Sports Washington, streamed FloSportsTV). Don't laugh. I'll explain below...

-Wofford (1-0) @ UTC (0-1) (Noon, ESPN+)
*UTC lost @ WKU 13-10 in the fall. Last week’s game with VMI was postponed.
So-Con only other conference besides the MVFC doing 8 conference games. Think will come down to Wofford, Furman, and UTC for the AQ and MAYBE an At-large. 6-2 in conference likely will get an at large out of the MVFC, but not out of the So-Con, where I think would take 7-1.

-UNI (0-1) @ YSU (0-1) (Noon)

-SDSU (1-0) @ UND (1-0) (1 PM, ESPN+).
Interesting game here, seeing how UND unexpectedly thrashed SIU last Sat 44-21, and will SDSU still be with their 3rd string true Fr QB?

-NDSU (2-0) @ SIU (1-1) (1 PM).
A week ago this looked like a potential marquee matchup, with SIU I believe 5th of 10 in the pre season MVFC pecking order behind NDSU, UNI, SDSU, and ILSU. But that was before they got thrashed last week @ UND..

1st games:
-EWU @ Idaho (6 PM)
Big Sky only 6 conference games, so likely would take 5-1 to get an At Large. EWU plays Idaho 2x, doesn’t play Weber.

-SELA @ SHSU (7 PM)
Southland only 6 conference games. Think will come down to SELA, SHSU, Nichols, and McNeese for the AQ and maybe 1 At-Large..Again UCA played fall, not participating winter/spring.

Posted this n the JMU board:

RMU in 2018: 0-9 vs Div I (2 Div II wins/0-6 in the NEC) (JMU 73, RMU 7).
RMU 2019 playing a tougher OOC schedule 7-5/6-1 in the NEC.

In 2018 they were a COMPLETE DUMPSTER FIRE. That HC of has done a PHENOMINAL job with a HUGE turn around. Was a Eddie Robinson finalist for National Coach of the year. My guess is he isn’t at RMU for long, as he will be poached.
https://rmucolonials.com/sports/footbal ... k-jr-/1269

RMU was moving to the Big South for the 2021 season, and they are now showing as a Big South team.
https://bigsouthsports.com/standings.aspx?path=football
So that means RMU are likely already above the 45 scholly limit, as they are allowed the full 63 in the Big South. Their winter/spring schedule is JMU & 4 Big South teams:
https://rmucolonials.com/sports/football/schedule
Anyone who thinks this RMU team will be remotely to the one faced 2 years ago hasn’t been paying attention. I see JMU winning this comfortably by 30ish. Its not going to be by 66.

RMU is going to be the only full scholly I-AA team in western PA, an extremely talent rich area. You have to think that Clark, having played on those great Miami teams of the mid/late 80s, and in the NFL, is going to be able to rake in the talent at RMU be top dog in the Big South, esp with KSU leaving. And unlike Deion Sanders at Jackson St, he won't have to bring in someone to teach tackling.

Speaking of the Big South, it's confusing right now.
Winter/Spring season:
-Campbell: played 4 games fall, not playing winter/spring.
-UNA: played 4 games fall, not playing winter/spring, moving to ASUN in fall.
-Hampton: not playing winter/spring.
-NC A&T: Moved from MEAC to Big South, but not playing winter/spring.
-Presbyterian: Playing winter/spring, but has already moved to Pioneer.

That leaves playing this winter/spring in the Big South:
-KSU: (moving to the ASUN in the fall).
-CSU
-G-Webb
-Monmouth
-Robert Morris (moving from NEC to Big South 2020/2021).

So the 5 Big South teams playing only have 4 conference games. That is the least of any of the AQ conferences. MVFC and So-Con have 8, and I believe the other 7 have 6. RMU has JMU OOC, KSU & G-Webb have 2 OOC games, while Monmouth and CSU just have the 4 Big South games.

Bottom line if you exclude this f'ed up 2020/2021 winter/spring season, the Big South from 2019 to 2021 is going from 8 to 7 teams (Gaining: NC A&T, RMU. Losing: Presbyterian (Pioneer), KSU (ASUN), UNA (ASUN)).

Watched Southern vs. Bama St last night.

Watching UNI at Disney on Ice now.

SDSU's defense is the real deal and their 3rd string QB is pretty damn good.

Was the UND/SIU outcome that big of a surprise with SIU's turnovers and UND's success in home openers (when was the last time they lost one)?

At least we're not going 3 and out over and over and the defense is getting rest. This is a huge improvement over last week.

UNI kicks another FG and leads 6 - 0 with less than 6 minutes in the first half.

JMU 16, RMU 16, halftime.. :ohno:

-JMU QB Cole Johnson thrown 3 INT, one practically a pick 6 since RMU ran it back to the JMU 2 yd line. 10 RMU points.
-JMU will win this game. RMU if will give KSU a run for their $$ in the Big South. Not sure if RMU is eligible for the AQ

How is Zeb looking?

Any more history lessons on Columbus and the Turks & Caicos?

Zeb is not a runner. He was good for the last 50 seconds of the half, against a prevent defense.
