Pwns wrote: Tue Jan 26, 2021 8:55 am I've never taken academia's presidential rankings seriously, and it has nothing to to do with academia's liberal slant.

There's an obvious bias in rankings to presidents who took office amidst a crisis and had it resolved before they left office even if that crisis resolved in spite of them and not because of them.

Example: FDR and Lincoln are usually considered among the best ever. Does anyone really believe that legitimately the most astute and capable leaders just happened to come about in the 2 worst crises in the country's national crises? It defies probability. You'd have to be really dumb enough to think we got the absolute best possible outcomes after the secession and the 1929 crash and that sticking absolutely anyone else in those presidencies would've resulted in a worse version of history.

As for Trump, well I think time will tell. IMO the GOP needs to move away from being a party of big business (who are becoming increasingly "woke" and hostile to cultural conservatism) and become more nationalist. If Trump ultimately starts the party on that trajectory his presidency will have been a success IMO.

No, the Nazis were populist. I'm arguing that nationalism and populism doesn't mean fascism.

Communists are socialist. But liberalism and socialism doesn't mean communism.

And I said that it "sounds kind of fascist" not that it was fascist.

Populism and nationalism are typically important elements of national socialism so while we don't know if this wet dream of a party will check all the boxes, it is checking a couple of important ones.

And yes, brilliant deduction. That’s why I quoted WWII’s post and said “I’m in charge here!”

Well Regan was a promoter of Reaganomics and tax cuts so you would probably think that. But Regan never ran for president like Haig did.

It won't be easy for Biden to win over a crowd whose political IQ is at the level of shitting on the Capitol floor and wiping it on the walls. :coffee:

Just think if they hadn't stopped to shit on the floors and wipe it on the walls - Mike Pence might not have had time to escape his planned lynching...
