Re: Coronavirus COVID-19
Why can't we just take care of the elderly and vulnerable? If you want to visit an elderly or vulnerable relative, quarantine yourself for 2 weeks. Many businesses and schools are open and Covid isn't spreading there, because they follow protocol. I understand, the average Trumper doesn't believe in protocol, they want herd immunity, let them get there "Herd Immunity", just stay away from the rest of us.

Oh. That part. I’ve never imagined you as an average Trumper.

For good reason, but when Gil quotes me and posts that, don't you agree he was implying and not just me inferring?

I wasn't implying you were a Trumper. I was stating we could open safely as you mentioned, but there is opposition by Trumpers to anything other than herd immunity. That makes it difficult to be safe.

At least the China Virus has eliminated the flu. Yay?

Now let’s dig deeper into the CDC data. At this same period last year, there were 1251 flu cases reported to the CDC during weeks 40-41. The number is about average when compared to previous years. However, in 2020, CDC only reported a total of 60 flu cases during the same period (table below).

I'd like to the see the article about HS athletics. Iowa played BB and SB this past summer and is currently playing FB, VB, and CC. Schools have been back since August. Almost no issues anywhere in the state. Yes some teams have stopped playing because they've had a player infected but there are no cases of a whole team getting infected or transmission from one team to another. No massive school shutdowns because of infections either.kalm wrote: ↑Mon Oct 26, 2020 7:38 amNo offense taken. I could post another “random” article on an El Paso judge issuing A nighttime curfew and also halting high school athletics if you’d like. Similar articles are coming out of Wisconsin, the Dakotas, Idaho, France, Italy, Spain...GannonFan wrote: ↑Mon Oct 26, 2020 6:21 am
No offense, but posting random comments about who hospitals would prioritize who dies and who lives due to lack of space and/or ability to treat the patients is quintessential fear mongering. Have we, at any point in America during this pandemic, even in the initial month in NYC when doctors didn't know how to treat this and had trouble even containing it, ever been down to the point where two sick people were separated into the "selected to live" and the "selected to die" lines? There are and always will be contingency plans like this - everyday triage has this as a step somewhere down the line. But to conflate the idea that triage could eventually make those decisions with what's happening on the ground right now, or even in the near future, is almost the textbook definition of fear mongering. This should be beneath you, kalm.
Your experience and company’s precautions are an example of what might happen if EVERYONE took the information and forecasting by experts (dirty word these days) seriously enough. Too many people do not and you end up with continuous new spikes, hospitalizations, and deaths.
Again, simply compare deaths as an example.. US vs Germany or heck, Germany vs. Texas.
I want to know if health districts are bracing for some real shit beyond their normal non-Covid planning. Reality vs. fear mongering. Sorry I’m not above reality. Thankful that at least some health administrators, judges, and political leaders are not as well.
More lockdowns are coming, worldwide, due to real threats. Like it or not.

The Sketchy Claims of the Case for a Mask Mandate
Kalm? There’s a fundamental problem however with the media’s current mask frenzy: the American public has already adopted mask-wearing at an extraordinarily high rate. In fact, we hit almost 80% mask use back in July according to a survey tracker of behavioral changes in response to the pandemic. Furthermore, the United States has consistently hovered in the 80% mask compliance territory ever since.
...
Yet as we are now seeing in Europe and parts of the United States though, the fall 2020 case surge came many months after the widespread adoption of masks in these regions. Masks are not the next big policy step to take, but rather one that most of the afflicted regions have already taken. They simply weren’t the universal panacea that our media and parts of the epidemiology profession promised.

That’s great news on Iowa athletics and schools, Fiver.
Here ya go, baby birds...
(The sports lockdown was a request from the judge not an order, but it’s being followed)

It was an honest question. I could have said that, but I don't think I did. I'm sure I said my vote doesn't matter, but I also posted on the "hold your nose" thread that I would vote for Trump because I was tired of the gap in popular vs EC.
