Nah, we'll be fine. We normally only eat out one dinner and one breakfast while we're down there, do take-out or make our own while we're there even in normal times. Wear a mask when we're around others and this year we'll look for a more remote part of the beach to set up the umbrellas so I don't need to sit there all day with a mask on. Should be easy to do so, normally the crowds are just around the lifeguard stands. This is even more reason to limit trips up to the boardwalk. Kids are getting too old for some of the rides anyway.
I meant with your fishing expedition on that last sentence of your post.... 8-) 8-)

Ocean City is still a dry town, right? It was when I was a kid. That’ll take the bar scene out of the picture.

Ahh, agreed on that. Even though it was a fishing attempt, I still meant it though. Truth hurts.

Yup, you can buy booze in Somer's Point right before the bridge and bring it across (like a 5 minute drive from the house we rent) but no bars and no place to buy it in Ocean City. Agreed, it should kept those miscreants out of the bars and spreading COVID, among the other things they spread.

Great article. Explains a good amount of what is being debated right now. From all the positive cases without a corresponding death rate to when we will see this virus again to why the elderly suffer the cytokine storm, etc.

So if we do a PCR corona test on an immune person, it is not a virus that is detected, but a small shattered part of the viral genome. The test comes back positive for as long as there are tiny shattered parts of the virus left. Correct: Even if the infectious viri are long dead, a corona test can come back positive, because the PCR method multiplies even a tiny fraction of the viral genetic material enough [to be detected]. That’s exactly what happened, when there was the global news, even shared by the WHO, that 200 Koreans who already went through Covid-19 were infected a second time and that there was therefore probably no immunity against this virus. The explanation of what really happened and an apology came only later, when it was clear that the immune Koreans were perfectly healthy and only had a short battle with the virus. The crux was that the virus debris registered with the overly sensitive test and therefore came back as “positive”. It is likely that a large number of the daily reported infection numbers are purely due to viral debris.

NBC News Spent Weeks Reporting On A Contributor’s Journey Battling Coronavirus – But He Never Had It

NBC News spent weeks documenting its science contributor’s battle with COVID-19, but now he admits that he never tested positive for it.

Dr. Joseph Fair, a virologist, believed he had the virus and appeared on air numerous times to discuss his struggle with illness in May and June. On Tuesday, Fair admitted that he tested negative for the virus multiple times but had originally believed he had it regardless. Fair also tested negative upon taking an antibody test.

Numbers keep going up in NC. Bars still closed. Ironically though, places that brew their own beer are allowed to be open.

Found a great dashboard that provides a nice snap shot of CA. We've had a death spike here (mostly LA County, thanks BLM) and still predominately old people dying.

Age - Deaths by %
0-17: 0%
18-49 - 7%
50-64 - 17%
65+ - 77%

3738 of the 6945 deaths are in LA county. 5411 of the 6945 deaths are in counties in SoCal. The 5 counties with the highest deaths are all in SoCal

On the testing front, CA has exceed 5.2M test and the last 14 day positive rate is 7.4%.

But yeah let's close K-12 schools and college campuses. :dunce:

Interesting case on personal rights vs. public safety and the tough decisions public officials are having to make....

By Maggie Quinlan
maggieq@spokesman.com
(509) 459-5135
While driving to work on a recent morning, Spokane County Health Officer Bob Lutz saw people holding signs that read “Lutz is nuts” and “Lutz is a tyrant.”

Lutz, who has had to make a string of controversial decisions since the COVID-19 pandemic began, is getting used to the criticism.

“I think people have to understand that my responsibility is to 512,000 residents of Spokane County,” Lutz said.

His recent decision to jail a homeless man who tested positive for COVID-19 and refused to self-isolate has drawn criticism from some Spokane residents, including from advocates at the Bail Project, which posts bail for inmates and advocates against criminalizing poverty.

Sabrina Ryan-Helton, who posts bail for that nonprofit, said Lutz’s decision “smacks of fascism” because the jailed man was not named to the public and did not commit a crime. Ryan-Helton argued that, without naming him, there would be no accountability if the man suffered or even died in jail.

But, Lutz said, critical observers are missing key facts about the situation and jumping to sensational conclusions.

More from Lutz...
“Unfortunately, the national response has been a national disgrace. It’s been fragmented in states, and even within the states,” Lutz said. “There’s a completely different approach to COVID-19 once you cross the Idaho border. Why is a public health issue being politicized?”

He said the numbers make it clear that COVID-19 is a growing threat in the area, not a disappearing one. He pointed to the county’s case numbers. Spokane County had 450 confirmed cases before Memorial Day when it moved to Phase 2. As of this week, the number has spiked to around 1,500 cases.

“There is a fundamental tension that exists within public health ethics,” Lutz said. “Public health ethics looks at the entire population. We have a community-based approach. At times, individual rights become secondary to the larger community.”

Yup. We haven't seen my wife's grandparents since this all started in March. We had about 2 trips a month to see them (130 miles away from us) but called all those visits off. I bet a lot of this is in multi-generational homes where grandma and grandpa are sleeping down the hall from the kids in school. Not sure how you avoid those cases from happening.
