Chizzy, conservatives aren't some monolithic block that you can lump together. There are fiscal conservatives, social conservatives and chronological conservatives (pining away for the good old days when a woman's place was in the home and people of color weren't so uppity), etc. Yes there are a lot of supposed fiscal conservatives who only care about deficits when they're not in power.

Same thing applies to liberals. I consider myself a liberal in many ways - I try to keep an open mind, I believe we should try to help people help themselves and leave the world a better place - but I don't agree with the free sh!t for everyone approach.
Gosh I'm sorry I poked a hole in one of the core fundamental tenants of conservatism

I'll try not to do that anymore - I see it hurts your feelings
BTW: there are some Liberal fundamental beliefs that are also not applied in practice and only rhetoric too
*tenets

maybe George Will’s renter is a tenant of conservatism

Fiscal conservatism IS a core tenet of conservatism at large

Just because 95% of "conservatives" are now OK with spending us into the ground doesn't change the core tenets of conservatism.

It just makes them hypocrites (and stupid)

Conservative in "words" or actions..?
Because there hasn't been a conservative president in 100 years that's actually "reduced the size of government and spent less" than his Liberal predecessor... So we need to distinguish "conservative talk" from action because Conservatism in action looks wildly different than its rhetoric

:coffee:

Truth
Conservative in actions. My point being, if Coolidge was the last decent Conservative as a President, then maybe there are no longer any Conservatives that can win the Presidency.
A 100% true conservative cannot be elected president...because too many people are getting too much “stuff” to allow for a reduction in government depth and breath...

Reduction of government and budgets is something that the civil service (at any level) will not tolerate...

So, pure 100% conservatism is a dream of lots of people...but is effectively dead as a political position, especially at the federal level...

I don’t disagree...but I should have said a fiscal conservative can’t be elected...not the broad “100% conservative” that I did use...

We’ll have to re-elect him to recover it?

The FCC knew the coronavirus was coming and they literally put those word "coronavirus" into the Net Neutrality Act? Sweet Moses, maybe the Chinese are right, maybe we did start this and dropped some microbes into Wuhan. Where's spandos when you need him?

Seriously though, let's not be obtuse. I believe Net Neutrality prohibited terminating service or overcharging customers during a crisis.

Correct...
under Net Neutrality "Teh Internets" would be regulated as a Public Utility
and could not be turned off during crisis situations

much like what Verizon did to firefighters last summer
Verizon restricted bandwidth and actually turned off accounts because the municipality account was using too much data
the Firefighters had set up cellular hot spots for team coordination on hilltops
Verizon of course claimed they would never throttle accounts

and then proceeded to throttle accounts during crisis

Was it in their contract to be throttled? Or are you saying the Fire Department contacted Verizon and asked them to waive that part of their contract and Verizon said, "okay", but still throttled?

Do you really think it was some nefarious scheme by Verizon to do this or was it more a case of employee stupidity?

difficult to assess... and also irrelevant
Due to the fact that Verizon / AT&T and Comcast have all been busted "throttling" accounts that they said they would never throttle

Truth be told they should throttle like crazy for the next few years while they still can fuck people over legally
because it's coming to an end pretty soon - Net Neutrality Utility will be a necessity and a reality soon

The fire dept. was on an account that allowed them to be throttled at 25 GB of data. Fire dept called in. Verizon bureaucracy didn't know what to do because it didn't fit their box.
