Viks have a safety, a blocked PAT and a made FG. Little things.

JMU 7, NC State 3 early 2nd (on ESPNU)

JMU has lost probably the #1 corner in I-AA/AA/pre season defensive POTY Rashard Robinson for the seaon to a foot injury. Apparently happend within the last week. Is a true senior, so can redshirt. Devastating news for JMU.

17-7 at half. NCSU keeps on picking on the backup JMU corner, including the last TD pass with about 30 sec left.
Edit: 3rd string corners, since Robinson and the 3rd & 4th corner were out..

McNeese defense looked good. Particularly the run defense. Offense: Not so much.

Well, Nicholls State gave Georgia all it wanted in 2016 then gave Texas A&M all it wanted in 2017. Kansas ain't Georgia or Texas A&M.

Pretty good day for the SLC including your road win. I know you guys have a terrific run D but I thought UNC's offense would be good this year and you held them mostly in check.

UCA played Tulsa tough. ACU, Lamar, HBU all put up some points as well and of course there's Nicholls.

The Southland might be rising. Too bad you guys don't play SHSU this year.

The McNeese defense gave up only one offensive TD. The other TV was a thing where one UNC guy intercepted the ball then, as he was getting tackled, lateraled to another guy who took it the distance.

The one offensive TD was a play where the QB should have been sacked but made a great play to shake off the tackle then got it downfield. McNeese got good pressure all day (6 sacks) but they missed on that one.

On the other hand the Cowboys did get a break as UNC had a long TD pass to Wesley called back for an offensive lineman ripping a defensive lineman's helmet off during the play. But on that one the DB fell down. When that happens and the receiver is a conference champ track guy there's not a lot you can do.

Overall, even though Wesley had 100 yards receiving, I thought they did a good job on him. 62 of his yards came on one play where they had two guys right on him but he made a great catch. In fact it was called an interception at first but replay overruled it as simultaneous possession when he hit the ground. The only time he ever really broke clean was on that play where the DB fell down.

One thing that struck me about ACU is that they put up 221 yards rushing at 8.1 yards per carry against Baylor. Also 466 yards total offense.

We'll see what happens with the Southland. There have been seasons in relatively recent history when they had some impressive non conference performances early in the season. Like for instance when McNeese beat South Florida 52-21 to open 2013 but laid huge eggs later in the season including losing by 41-6 at UNI and losing by 31-10 to Jacksonville State at home to open the playoffs (BTW, the only loss to Jacksonville State in the history of the series McNeese leads by 7-1).

And you look at things like Nicholls State having a real chance to beat Georgia to open the season in 2016 then ending up at 5-6.

Well they have now played two games in which they got substantially out gained in yardage but were +3 in the giveaway/takeaway stat each time. I wonder if they can keep that up. They got by the best two teams they're going to play this year at 2-0 though so it's looking good. Too bad the MEAC doesn't send its champ to the playoffs.

If we're lucky they'll lose a MEAC game and end up not being the official MEAC champ so they can get an at large bid and we can see how they do.

I want to rank NCAT and probably will later when we simply get low on quality teams but for right now I just can’t pull the trigger on Ivies, MEAC’s, or SWACS because of the playoff thing.
