That's not the point. Freedom of Speech means freedom to say loving, respectful and honest statements and ideas JUST as much as it means freedom to say ignorant, hateful, dishonest statement and ideas.

Actually, to suggest that others shouldn't be allowed to say what the want is contrary to our founding principles and un-American. The very first right is that to speak freely and w/o fear that the government is going to punish you.

As I've mentioned before, the PC side of the left and college culture is a giant problem for me. Watching Milo on Maher, I found myself completely siding with him on the issue.

But this is a very strong and thought provoking article, hanging the anti PC right with Buckley among others. There indeed appears to be a bit of reverse triggering going on.

At the very least, I was not offended by the author's thoughts and felt no need to shout him down.

The difference between the anti-PC right and the SJW left is that you won't find the former trying to disrupt a "diversity", "social justice", or "anti-racism" speaker to the point that the event has to be moved to a live stream.

Well, when the base of the article comes from this point...

The critics of political correctness flatter themselves with paeans to their putative open-mindedness and cluck sadly at angry outbursts. Yes, certain ideas are wrong, they tell activists. But when you allow people to examine the various sides of a debate, those with the best command of facts and reason—that is, those who agree with us—will emerge victorious. The race scientists will go the way of flat-earthers. Islamophobia will be found contemptible. Hillary will win.

...it's hard to take it too seriously. Basically, because Trump won, which violates all logic and decency, then the gloves are off and there can be no civility.

I don't think there's ever good reason to "stamp out" speech you don't like, no matter how repugnant, except when it threatens someone's safety (life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness stuff). A KKK guy holding a rally and demanding that they find someone to lynch? Yeah, that should be shut down. Some aging guy that said something racially controversial in a book in the '90's that nobody really read and even now who knows what he stands for? Yeah, probably didn't need to go all violent on that one.

Violence is the key. Protesting a speaker is after all just another form of speech.

Another difference is they rarely get the chance. You don't see campus Democrats inviting Sarah Silverman to Bob Jones University.
