Something to Make Superhornet Happy

Post by kalm »

First girl to score two TD’s in a Cali HS game. She also plays DE.

“A Laguna High School senior made California history on Friday when she scored two touchdowns during her football game.

Bella Rasmussen, age 17, is the high school football star who says she's dreamt of this moment since she was a child.”

The first article I read said something about her being the first either in her school or in her league to get a pair. We might want to double-check that with the immortal Sami Grisafe, the first girl to start a CIF varsity game at quarterback (for Redlands (CA) HS) and the first woman to throw for 10K yards in the semi-pro ranks (with the now-defunct Chicago Force). Grisafe also won three gold medals with Team USA in the Women's World Championships and opened games singing the National Anthem to the accompaniment of her own ukulele.

Still an amazing feat. Here in Cali, most girls playing HS football are kickers, though there was one at a JC who got a schollie back East playing another position. The one time we had a girl playing safety at Lodi, she was too scared to do anything out there. (I would have placed her on offense....)

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.
