It's that time of year again. My hometown, Toms River, NJ, is in the Regionals for the 8th time since 1995. Will play NY for a trip to Williamsport tomorrow.
4 teams added to the LLWS field this year. 2 from the US and 2 from International to bring the total to 20 teams.
Poll to follow once field is set.

And there's this. When is a foul ball not a foul ball?

Yeah. Oregon got screwed. That was CLEARLY a foul ball. That home plate ump should be sent back to school....

Yeah, as long as that ball didn't hit the ground first coming off the bat (I can't tell from the video) then it looks like it hits the ground first in foul ground, hence a foul ball.

The third base umpire called it a foul ball (threw up his hands signalling a foul ball). The Oregon kids stopped playing because it was signaled a foul ball. Even if it was signaled in error, if the umpire stops play like that, then the play is stopped, regardless if replays show it was fair or not. Just like an inadvertent whistle in football or basketball, causing play to stop. The run should not have counted.

I don't vote against the West (Hawaii) or the Southeast (Tennessee). Although at least the PA team is a somewhat local one - just outside of Altoona (maybe an hour away) and all the kids on that team have already been to Willamsport before (as spectators) so they have some familiarity and the home crowd.

Hawaii, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Texas are the last 4 teams standing. PA and TX play in an elimination game today.

Well I cast the TX vote, so I’m still alive.

Hey, I picked 3 out of the 4, and only because I didn't bother to pick a 4th (although Texas would've been a good bet, as it always is). LLWS is starting to look like college football, real easy to pick the good teams because they are year after year. Other than Japan crapping the bed this year (and at least Taiwan is there to pick up the slack for the Asia-Pacific region) this has gone pretty much to chalk.

Hawai'i mercy-ruled Curacao 13-3 in four innings to win the whole shooting match. That makes four mercy rule wins in six games for the Hawai'ians....
