Wouldn't they only meet again in the Finals? I find that extremely hardly unlikely.

Germany's never been the same team since Miroslav Klose retired. Loved that guy. Never looked like much, but all he did was score goals. Germany's looking like they won't make it out of the group stage for the second time in a row. Costa Rica looks terrible, so all Japan has to do is likely draw against Spain and they might both be through.

Was the US expected to make it out of group play coming into this tournament? So were we supposed to beat Wales? The tie feels like a loss, but I'm assuming we'll take a loss to England which probably puts us out, no?

There was a goal that wasn't allowed earlier and Ghana gave them all they could handle.

Thought the USA looked great yesterday - some of the best soccer we've ever played. Had England on their heels after the first 10 minutes. We are missing some real scoring punch, though. One of these strikers need to step up and start delivering. We can beat Iran, we're better than them all over the pitch, but obviously if we can't score we won't win. Iran just needs the draw, we need the win, should be a fair amount of attacking soccer. Hopefully will look like the first half of the Wales game.

If Wales happens to beat England (could happen since England has essentially qualified), Iran would not advance with a tie. Wales would based on Goal Differential.

Not jinxing anything. USA gets the goal they need in the first half, taking a 1-0 lead into halftime. Nicely played header by Dest back into the box and Pulisic comes flying in to kick it home. Plus he gets tangled up with the keeper as a result. Beautiful goal. Probably should be 2 or 3 goals at this point. Adams is having the game of his life right now at center mid - he set them up on a 3-2 that the US ended up bungling at the top, and then he sent Weah through on what looked onside but the powers to be have said wasn't - still waiting to see the evidence that he was offside, the initial replay shown once looked good.

This looked like the first half against Wales and all but the first 20 minute against England. USA side is flying around the pitch right now. Negatives are they didn't score more than one and Pulisic took a nick on the goal and looks a little hurt. Keep him on and get Aaronson and Reyna in there to replace Weah and Sargent (again, Sargent doing little other than being a diversity inclusion for gingers). I don't care that Aaronson is really a mid.

USA holds on, wins 1-0, advances to play the Netherlands in a round of 16 game on Saturday. Hopefully Pulisic isn't too injured as he didn't come back on after halftime. Good game by the US, gave a few chances up there at the end, but nothing too dangerous. Good World Cup for this group and now they get a shot at a good, but beatable, Dutch team.

Once they shifted to the 5 along the back line things just got dicey. Not sure if I would've changed like that. Also gotta teach the forwards to hold on to the ball longer. Wright took a weak shot with like a minute to go when he could've just dribbled to the corner and waste more time. But a win is a win.
