Tony Stewart's SRX is going again. Helio Castroneves won last week at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola. Stewart apparently won today at South Boston, VA. It's his third win in SRX, and his first on a paved track. He won a duel with Marco Andretti at the end that eventually included Greg Biffle, who nosed his way into the fray as Stewart and Andretti were banging away as they sought to take the lead. Andretti had hard contact with Biffle, sending him to the back of the pack with damage as Biffle wasn't able to catch Stewart. Bobby Labonte and Ryan Newman finished third and fourth, and Castroneves rounded out the Top Five.

https://sports.yahoo.com/tony-stewart-t ... p_catchall

Final Standings

1. Tony Stewart
2. Greg Biffle
3. Bobby Labonte
4. Ryan Newman
5. Helio Castroneves
6. Tony Kanaan
7. Ernie Francis, Jr.
8. Marco Andretti
9. Ryan Hunter-Reay
10. Peyton Sellers (Local Hero)
11. Michael Waltrip (DNF)
12. Paul Tracy (DNF)

Points Standings

1. Tony Kanaan 36
2. Ryan Newman 36
3. Bobby Labonte 29
4. Marco Andretti 26
5. Tony Stewart 21
6. Greg Biffle 21
7. Bill Elliott 21
8. Ryan Hunter-Reay 18
9. Michael Waltrip 15
10. Paul Tracy 13
11. Ernie Francis, Jr. 6

Apparently, Castroneves is banking on his win last week to get a berth into next year's Daytona 500. Foreign-flagged drivers can't get into NASCAR, you say? Not so fast. Mexican-flagged Daniel Suarez has been racing in NASCAR for several years, and recently retired F1 driver Kimi Raikkonen has been approved to race NASCAR in August at Watkins Glen. Castroneves could be approved soon thereafter.

Hailie Deegan started the SRX race at Stafford Springs, CT, on the pole, but faded to sixth as Ryan Newman bumped Marco Andretti on the last lap to take the win. In the process, Newman avoided incidents that severely damaged Michael Waltrip's entry and put Greg Biffle into the grass. Bobby Labonte was impressive through most of the race, but faded late. While I was obviously rooting for Deegan, it was touching to see Newman celebrating with his young daughters, who may not have seen him win a race before, as he's been away from the Cup Series for quite some time....

Final Results

1. Ryan Newman
2. Marco Andretti
3. Paul Tracy
4. Tony Stewart
5. Bobby Labonte
6. Hailie Deegan
7. Ryan Hunter-Reay
8. Matt Hirschman
9. Justin Marks
10. Greg Biffle
11. Bill Elliott
12. Michael Waltrip

British GP was probably the best F1 race I've ever seen. Huge crash at the start, Checo goes 17th to 2nd, Sainz gets his first win in 150 races, Schumacker gets his first career points, Leclerc gets butt hurt his teammate outshined him, Hamilton back on podium, but best had to be that 5 way battle for 2-6th in the final 10 laps. Well worth the watch.

Bobby Labonte outlasted Marco Andretti and Matt Kenseth to win the SRX race at Nashville. I was disappointed that Hailie Deegan was not there....

Former NASCAR driver Bobby East fatally stabbed in California; police searching for suspect

Former NASCAR driver Bobby East was fatally stabbed at a gas station in California last week, and police are still searching for the suspect in his killing.

East, a three-time United States Auto Club (USAC) National Champion driver in USAC Silver Crown and Midgets, died Wednesday after being stabbed in the chest at a 76 gas station on Westminster Blvd. in Westminster, California, according to the USAC and police.

"East was phenomenal in USAC National Sprint Cars as well, most notably on pavement tracks," the USAC said in a Friday statement. "He tallied 15 wins in the series, with the first coming in 2003 at Ohio’s Mansfield Motorsports Speedway. He also prevailed at the Milwaukee Mile in 2005 in what remains as the last USAC Sprint Car race held on a one-mile track."

The Westminster Police Department is searching for suspect Trent William Millsap, who fled the scene before police arrived.
Image

Millsap also has an outstanding parole warrant and should be considered armed and dangerous, police said in a statement.

Police found East on the ground suffering from a "serious chest wound" upon arrival and transported him to a nearby trauma center, where he was pronounced dead.
Image
East was born in California and later moved to Brownsburg, Indiana, to pursue his racing career, according to USAC.

"Bobby was an immediate success in his USAC career," the auto club said in its press release. "His first career triumph with the USAC National Midgets in 2001 at Schererville, Indiana’s Illiana Motor Speedway made Bobby the youngest USAC national feature winner ever at the time, at the age of 16. His three winning performances in 2001 made him the winningest USAC National Midget Rookie in more than a quarter century. Ultimately, he was rewarded as the series’ Rookie of the Year."….

Did anyone see the move Chastain made on the last lap yesterday to make it into the Championahip 4? One of the most incredible moves I have ever seen.

Can’t believe it hasn’t been tried before at Martinsville or Bristol, or maybe RIR. I guess down the backstretch he put his car up against the wall and started going full throttle before he entered Turn 3. Timed it perfectly- Any later would have been too late to catch up to Hamlin,, any earlier probably would have blown his tires and wrecked. So of the .58 mile track, he did that for what maybe 1/5th or 1/4 of a mile. I don’t think you could do that for a full lap and have your tires and car hold up..

Damn, watches his son Ty win the Xfinity Championship yesterday, and then dies in his sleep last night. Coy Gibbs played football at Stanford. Joe Gibbs has now lost both his sons in 3+ years, both at the age of 49.JD (played football at W&M) died in 2019. Ty was going to drive in the Cup championship race going on now but was replaced this morning.
