Re: 2021 Motorsports Thread
I believe Hen is referring to the NASCAR race at Bristol, the first dirt race in NASCAR in 50+ years.
You are correct, Hen. Fox has been making a big deal about it the last couple of weeks. My sister's fiance tells me from experience that the dirt will be tough on those cars. He used to race those beginners' small cars on the dirt. It was tough with those, and they were designed for dirt, while NASCARs are typically not, at least in the modern era. I hear that back in the day, teams had cars for both asphalt and dirt, but as dirt racing dwindled at the top level, it became cost prohibitive....

I was going to root for HAAS, but after the Russia stunt, I'm won't anymore. Mazepin is also driving for HAAS and the guy is a total ass. The guy who owns Uralkali is Mazepin's dad, even though there are better drivers.
I'll be rooting for Red Bull this year, which is the team I rooted for when I got into F1 before I liked Force India and then HAAS.
And yeah, Grosjean's crash was insane. Season 3 of "Drive to Survive" does a good job covering it in an episode if you're interested. For what it's worth, he'll be competing in IndyCar this year since he couldn't find a seat in F1.
Anyways, can't wait for the season to start on Sunday.

When I was a kid, I watched NASCAR including Richard Petty race at Fonda Speedway (Fonda NY). F1 HAAS is using last years equipment this year, so i don't expect much from them
Re: 2021 Motorsports Thread
Bahrain Grand Prix - and the 2021 Formula 1 season - starts in a few minutes.
Dirt racing at Bristol postponed 'til 9pm tonight due to weather, but IMO I think it ends up happening tomorrow.

7 laps to go...exciting, close, technical race. Although I enjoy NASCAR and other series, reminds me why F1 is simply the best.
edit: Epic finish. Hamilton (Mercedes) eeeeeeks it out over Verstappen (Red Bull). Hamilton with masterful driving at the end, with very old tires defending against the newer tires of Verstappen.
Bottas (Mercedes) takes 3rd.

It was an exciting race. Lil CCU and I watched it yesterday - she's a McLaren and Ferrari fan but it's purely based off their colors.∞∞∞ wrote: ↑Sun Mar 28, 2021 9:29 am 7 laps to go...exciting, close, technical race. Although I enjoy NASCAR and other series, reminds me why F1 is simply the best.

Perez proved his worth yesterday. He has repeated car failures, starts at the back and finished P5. Red Bull was lucky with that - but whoever is in charge of the energy store got an earful.
Verstappen is a great driver and I thought he had it yesterday. You know he was pissed when he had to let Lewis pass him in the 53/54th lap. And again, Lewis had taken and held onto a very narrow lead while dealing with some sort of problem. It was either last or the year before where he held off Max for nearly 10 laps while experiencing a power failure. The guy is talented. This time his tires were losing grip.

I like Red Bull as well, even more so now that they have Checo on the team. With his last to 5th finish in the opening race, he has already has more over takes than Gassley and Albon combined when they were in the #2 seat.

Re: 2021 Motorsports Thread
Just looking at the rankings as provided by Yahoo! Sports. They annotate who's in the playoffs with a p footnote. Just a couple of problems: first, not everybody marked with a p has a win, and not everybody inside the Top 16 has a p. For example, #1 Hamlin, #5 Keselowski, #8 Harvick, #9 Elliott, #11 Dillon, #13 Kyle Busch, #14 Stenhouse, # 15 Kurt Busch, and #16 Bowman have no wins. Of those, Hamlin, Keselowski, Harvick, Elliott, and Dillon have p's. Is the footnote just a prognostication? What else might be going on?

Any thoughts on the "Sprint" qualifying F1 is going to employ for a few of the grand prix'?
Re: 2021 Motorsports Thread
I saw that news - it looks exciting. 100km to determine position (or if you stay home on Sunday). .

Re: 2021 Motorsports Thread
It would've been cool if it was a road course. I guess this means Haas now has 2 home grand prix they can fail at.

As noted in many other posts, this season has been crazy. I'm estimating that places 17-25 are still in the running, but it'll be hard, as the way things are going, the standard "win and you're in" may not apply this year, as a whopping NINE different drivers have won the ten races already contested. Eighteen races remain until the playoffs start in Sept.

That jerk Kyle Busch becomes the 10th winner in 11 races at Kansas. My guy started second, and dropped off a tad, but still finished 9th for another Top Ten finish....

Very boring race. There is usually at least some mid-field action to be entertained with during the typical Merc vs Vertappen battle up front, but there wasn't much today. At least "The Mexican" didn't choke and got RB some points.SuperHornet wrote: ↑Sun May 02, 2021 8:08 pm Lewis Hamilton takes second win of the season today at Portuguese Grand Prix, beating Max Verstappen and Valtteri Bottas....
