So, do the rescue crews have to stay six feet away when these bozos crash five times in the last three laps like they always predictably do nowadays?

Anyone see that IndyCar debacle on Saturday? One car out in front the whole way with up to 10 seconds between him and the next car. What's up with that? SMH....

NASCAR bans the confederate flag.
Re: 2020 Motor Racing Thread
They were already failing as a sport. Doesn't really matter now if they further alienate their once core audience.

Re: 2020 Motor Racing Thread
Eh, I've come to terms with the shrinking crowd sizes.
Core audiences can sometimes be toxic (see Harley Davidson), and it'd be better for NASCAR to survive with less fans and corporate sponsorships intact than going the way of the dodo bird. And you might not see it, but for years, there's been an audience clamoring for more inclusion and clamping down on race day toxicity. For example, the NASCAR message board on Reddit has 450K users and they're celebrating today.
At least personally, it'll be MUCH easier to convince friends to go to races. I've literally had people refuse to attend because they (understandably) thought NASCAR didn't give a sh*t about racism. To be honest, I was going to skip Richmond in September if the confederate flag wasn't banned...and I'm embarrassed to say I didn't think about doing that before recent events.

Re: 2020 Motor Racing Thread
NASCAR is the poster child of how to kill a fan base. Over the years on here, the many fan base killing things they've done have been listed many times. You're going to see emptier an emptier stands on TV, and ratings will continue to decline. Going to be a MAJOR economic reset in 2024 when the current TV deal expires..
If the flag ban was the only thing they'd done in the last week plus, I'd still watch, and maybe go to a couple races a year. After all, flag ban will eliminate it from being flown in the infield, which is NASCAR's biggest thing because of TV, but you'll still see it in RV parking areas, and on t shirts, hats, etc, esp at places like Darlington, Dega, Bristol. But the last week+ NASCAR has gone full retard in their SJW embrace of BLM (Race Hub and Sunday's ATL race) and and gay pride month . The last straw for me was Mon when the BLM car was announced.

Flags bearing Earnhardt's No. 3 still fly alongside the rebel flag in infields. But how did Earnhardt himself feel about the flag? A story from off the track gives a clue.
There's a bumper sticker out there still on sale at just about every truck stop in the South. "AMERICAN BY BIRTH," it reads, "SOUTHERN BY THE GRACE OF GOD," usually with a rebel flag alongside. One day Earnhardt slapped one of these stickers onto the bumper of one of his trucks. He didn't think any more of it until his housekeeper, an African-American woman beloved by Earnhardt's children Dale and Kelley, mentioned that the flag's implications made her uncomfortable.
Earnhardt immediately went out to his truck and sliced off the rebel flag. The motto remained; the flag itself was trashed.
"He didn't want to offend anybody or make anybody mad in that manner," said Kelley Earnhardt Miller, telling the story on her "Fast Lane Family" podcast. "He had a good heart."

Well when NASCAR DOES start letting fans back in it might be a moot point. Lol.

Dover used to draw 135,000 (max capacity) in the stands and another 30K or so in the infield on race weekends. They have since removed over 80,000 seats and still can't sellout. They just gave one of their two race dates up to Nashville Speedway.
NASCAR has been steadily declining for about 15 years. Recent events are simply helping to accelerate the decline.

I think you place too much importance on attendance; attendance for most leagues (except maybe MLS) is on the decline.93henfan wrote: ↑Mon Jun 22, 2020 6:54 pmDover used to draw 135,000 (max capacity) in the stands and another 30K or so in the infield on race weekends. NASCAR's focus should be growing the streaming experience, which they're doing successfully. That and data analytics is where future money lies. Additionally the car manufacturers, sponsors, networks, and advertisers have been pressuring NASCAR for years to make the sport more inclusive and they likely had a lot to say regarding the rebel flag. Do you think companies today want their brands tied to stuff like that?
Those guys are worth way more money than ticket sales ever will be.

Re: 2020 Motor Racing Thread
Yep. These last few years more and more teams have struggled to get sponsors for a whole season. Tracks are struggling with dwindling ticket sales. And all of NASCAR is going to take a HUGE economic hit & have a major economic reset after 2024 when their current 10 season TV deal (8.2 billion with Fox & NBC expires).93henfan wrote: ↑Mon Jun 22, 2020 6:54 pmDover used to draw 135,000 (max capacity) in the stands and another 30K or so in the infield on race weekends.
