Who would have thought that Tanner Glass would have had the first goal of the playoffs? Lundqvist does a great job of keeping the Rangers in it early saving 16 Canadiens shots in the 1st (versus only 5 shots for the Rangers) and holds on for the 2-0 shutout with 31 total saves. Last Ranger goal was an empty netter.
Boston scored late to also get an away 2-1 win against Ottawa
Blues goalie just made an insane glove save while on his back to keep the 1-0 lead over Minnesota with just under 5 to go in the 2nd.

And Minn score on their 44th shot to know the game at 1 with 22 seconds to go. Allen has been insane in net for the Blues today - and Dubnyk has looked good saving 20 of 21 shots. On to Overtime

Game 1s are over for the East
WC1 Rangers beat #1 Montreal 2-0 (empty netter)
#3 Bruins beat #2 Ottawa 2-1
#1 Caps beat WC2 Toronto 3-2 in OT (Toronto was up 2-0 in first 10 minutes)
#2 Pens beat #3 Columbus 3-1
West still has 1 more game to go
WC2 Nashville beat #1 Chicago 1-0
#3 St. Louis beat #2Minnesota 2-1 in OT
WC1 Calgary playing #1 Anaheim in a bit
#3 San Jose beat #2 Edmonton 3-2 in OT
Only Caps and Pens (top 2 teams in the NHL by points this year) won as favorites in Game 1 with Anaheim having a chance to add to that.

Wild down 2-0 to the Blues. Another fantastic postseason coaching job by Mr. Boudreau!

They were in a downward spiral the last 20 games of the season.

Meanwhile the Pens go up 3-0 over Columbus. Ho-hum.

I don't think that's a surprise to most people who watched a lot of hockey this year. Pittsburgh is, well, Pittsburgh. They're going to throttle inexperienced playoff teams. And Columbus, as I said earlier in the year in the NHL thread, is a decent team, but not a great team like their point total might lead some to believe. If it wasn't for their 16 game (?) winning streak this season, I think they would have fighting for a wild card spot.

Just don't know what's wrong with them. A sweep wasn't expected, but they should be able to beat the Leafs at home somewhat comfortably. I figured they'd get a game at home in Toronto and force Game 5, but now I'm negative nelly.

And Matthews has been tripping on his dick so far. If he gets going the Caps could really be in trouble.

Wow, four OT games last night! Has that ever happened before? Good results for Sens, Leafs, Preds, and Ducks. Caps, Hawks, Flames, and Sens all coughed up two-goal leads: Ottawa was the only one to come out on top.

Niskanen had a horrible game and Shattenkirk had a complete brain fart on one of the goals. Not looking good.

I'm not happy that my top 2 are facing off in the first round, BUT the Mighty Ducks are 3-0 right now.
Are they re-seeding in the next round? I'm not a fan of that idea....

Why the hell are you a Flames fan? Have you even been to Canada?

Because the Flames sounds like a women's professional team name.

Actually, I've been a fan of all things Calgary since the Winter Olympics. I was very impressed by the fact that they had a little kid light the flame.
And the presence of the Magic Flute didn't hurt, either.
Yes, I HAVE been to Canada. I was on a Tiger Cruise that went to Halifax one summer while assigned to a carrier in Norfolk.

Caps hang on to even up their series. Wild stave off elimination. Sens go up 3-1. Super Horney's beloved Ducks sweep out the Flames.
