Utley is broken. I will believe Howard is back when I see it, but not optimistic. I will still enjoy watching these guys play but my expectations are severly tempered.GannonFan wrote:Nah, when Utley's back to cussin in interviews, it's a good sign. The bullpen's been fixed and unless they are as unlucky health-wise as they were last year (and they are clearly an older team so bad health can happen) I think they're going to surprise people this year. The Nats are still trying to figure out how they lost in the playoffs last year and the Braves never seem to live up to the hype. Phils still have plenty of talent and some guys who know how to win.

You care to explain how Utley had a 3 WAR last year in 83 games? Doesn't look broken to me.Utley is broken.
If everyone stays healthy and the phils make the playoffs, that 08-09 core could be extended. Even though he's not part of the original core, I see Halladay bouncing back this year and the phils giving him his last contract. This will be the last shot for the old 08-09 core group. We'll see, but I think FranksTanks is spot on.
If they have a great first half like you said, then I see Amaro going all in on a trade to keep the team rolling in the 2nd half. Plus, I would assume that he knows the door is closing on the core and that this could be the last year everyone is here.I think the Phils will have a great first half and then the age and injuries will rear their ugly heads. Maybe they hang on for a wild card.
I hoe you're right on the first half as this group has always been a 2nd half team.93henfan wrote:I think the Phils will have a great first half and then the age and injuries will rear their ugly heads. Maybe they hang on for a wild card.
Hope I'm way wrong. We'll see. Go Phils!
The fish are not biting today.89Hen wrote:Nats and Braves just look too strong for the Phils to be a serious contender this year.
Would you like to wager a bag of Snyders?93henfan wrote:The fish are not biting today.89Hen wrote:Nats and Braves just look too strong for the Phils to be a serious contender this year.
Braves? Seriously?![]()
The Nats might be able to hang with a non-decimated 2012 Phils type lineup, but the Braves?
Phils will finish with a better record than the Braves. I would like one bag of honey mustard and onion. Thank you.89Hen wrote:Would you like to wager a bag of Snyders?93henfan wrote:

It's still the gold standard for me. HBW is so 2011 (still great, mind you).89Hen wrote:You're on, but HM?93henfan wrote:

It's always exciting watching Delmon in the field.GannonFan wrote:If this team is healthy, and that's a big assumption to make, they're going to surprise a lot of people. Having Utley healthy enough to even play a Spring Training game is huge. Howard looks recovered, and if Halladay regains some of his pop that makes a pretty good rotation even that much better. This will very likely be the last hurrah, but it could be one heckuva last hurrah for these guys. The Braves are a paper tiger so that really just leaves the Nats. Should be a fun summer again.

Considering he won't play until May, it gives a huge opportunity to Brown. Hopefully, Brown starts hot and keeps the RF job, while Delmon fights for LF with Mayberry and Ruf.It's always exciting watching Delmon in the field.
We won't be biting at all this season.93henfan wrote:The fish are not biting today.89Hen wrote:Nats and Braves just look too strong for the Phils to be a serious contender this year.

93: might want to reconsider that bet. Papschmear was torched today for 6 runs in one inning, including two bombs.
