Sirens open 2-0!

After a nail-biting 21-14 win over the upstart Modesto Maniax (who somehow got good over the offseason) last week, the Sacramento Sirens closed out a dominating first half with a 25 yard FG from dependable kicker Jennifer Bloom to go into the break up 38-6 against the first-year Utah Jynx, who are apparently looking for a league to call home. (The Jynx' uniforms look amazingly like Notre Dame.) The Jynx got untracked in the second half behind former BYU quarterback Louise Bean, who was finding receiver Mixsa Kafi on deep routes routinely in the second half. The Sirens essentially cruised during the second half, though, easily able to contain two additional Jynx scores to get the duke 45-20.

The Sirens fans enjoyed the performance turned in by two rookie running backs. First-year player Katie George broke loose for three long TDs, while fellow freshman Rachel Gover also got one. Not to be outdone, veteran Ashlee Sharp busted one for a score. First-year starting QB Trewdy Wolfe was knocked out with a leg injury, leading to the entrance of veteran Chantelle Powers, who immediately paid dividends with a long TD pass to returning TE Sarah Trobee. And fans of the SportsCenter hits were not disappointed; LBer Lineni Noa Keil peeled back on a punt return and literally decleated a Jynx cover person, who was down for several minutes after the huge hit heard throughout the stadium.

After a bye next week, the Sirens play host to the California Quake out of Long Beach. Game time is 6 PM at Paul Shimada Stadium at Natomas High near Power Balance Pavilion in Sacramento.

I protest this being placed in the "Other Sports" category. A bunch of sammi makers, wasting valuable time they could be using to perfect a recipe or doing laundry, making a mockery of the game of football does not a sport make.

Is there another league they could conceivably join beside whatever this league that you watch is called?
SuperHornet wrote:former BYU quarterback Louise Bean
BYU had a quarterback named Louise? I missed that.
SuperHornet wrote:And fans of the SportsCenter hits were not disappointed
That's pretty awesome that ESPN was there.

Sacred City, baby!

I'll take your questions one at a time, 93.

1. The Jynx could conceivably joint the Women's Football Alliance, the other entity resembling a "major league" for women's professional football. Fans of the Independent Women's Football League, however, consider the IWFL to be the superior brand, if only because the IWFL was the basis for Team USA in the inaugural World Championship held in Sweden over 4th of July weekend last year. Team USA won the gold without giving up a single point in the entire tournament, including a beatdown of Canada in the Gold Medal Game.

2. Bean attended BYU.

3. The SportsCenter comment was aimed at the types of plays that would end up on a SC highlight reel, not from ESPN actually being there. Though it would be nice. Unfortunately, they'd be more likely to show up at a New York Sharks or Boston Militia game. (Those are former IWFL teams that jumped to the WFA. Boston won the IWFL Championship last year before skipping town.)

4. Yup. Sacred City DOES rule!

And for citdog: I'd love to see YOU get up after Lileni Noa knocks you into the middle of next week, you misogynistic male chauvinist pig!

Dude, I was being facetious. Everyone knows that the IWFL is the superior brand to the WFA. You don't have to tell us.

Hell, I used to be the tight ends coach for the Delaware Dykes in the WFA and we played a scrimmage against the Milwaukee Munchers of the IWFL back in the late 90s and they licked us.

Wow, I can't believe SH took ya serious on that one!

Good lord talk about common knowledge.

You are correct on those Munchers. I saw the Union City Unfuckables get their asses paddled by them back in the day.

The Topeka Tampax had the best rush defense ever, nobody could run on them. Period.

Wait just a damn minute there 86! The Kennesaw Kotex revolutionized the game with their "Wings" defense. Its genesis was during a conversation while two team members were walking on the beach.

Bandl, you leave our quarterback alone. She has more championship rings than you can shake a stick at, and she just became a grandma to boot. One of the nicest girls I ever met, too.

There's nothing wrong with a lil’ pie to the face.
Gatorade or Powerade?

Um... Kool-aid.
Do you have a tidbit about you that nobody would know that you would like to share?

My morning is not complete until I listen to ABBA, “Dancing Queen.”
Last sporting event you attended?

Hamster racing. Let's just say that was very different.

SH... unless you are sleeping with one of the members of this team... this is sad.

(i take that back - if you are sleeping with a member of this team... it's sad... if not - it's sadder still - also - I think some of these gals... if they like boys at all... like sticking it in boys... just sayin...)

The blond almost dead center (2 rows behind 54) looks pretty doable.

She was must be the token straight girl carrying on the tradition of the white guy on each NBA team.
