I can honestly say I see this going 7 games. My heart's saying Yankees in 6, but I think the Phillies will push it to 7.

The Dodgers just aren't that good. It would have been a quick, forgettable series. The Phils can hang.

Yanks swept the Whiz Kids in 1950. Time for some payback.

I agree that few outside of this area will care about a match up between a team from New York City and a team from the New York City suburbs. :)

I agree. Which is also why I think all the games should start about 5 or 6 PM so that the east coasters can watch all these games during happy hour/dinner and not until 1 or 2 AM in the morning...

Not that I want EITHER team to win, but it is the World Series so I will be watching

We all know where this nation was founded. New York was the offshoot. You guys had to put up a freebie french statue with a sign asking for immigrants to get anyone to come there.

I'd rather that than having to rely on a Sylvester Stallone movie, cheesesteaks, and a broken bell to attract tourists now that were out of the 1800's :geek:

Let's do an objective comparison between New York City and its best-known suburb:

Food:
NY -- New York Sirloin Steak
Phil -- Cheesesteak (with Cheez Whiz)

Notable Institution of Higher Learning:
NY -- Columbia University, a prominent comprehensive research university
Phil -- UPenn, a prominent football factory.

Tourist attraction:
NY -- The Statue of Liberty
Phil -- A broken bell.

Great holiday tradition:
NY-- The tree-lighting at Rockefeller Center.
Phil -- Booing Santa Claus.

Culture:
NY -- Broadway, Lincoln Center.
Phil -- Rocky.

Memorialized in Song?
Ny -- Frank Sinatra.
Phil -- Elton John.

Skyline defnied by?
NY -- Empire State Building; Chrysler Building.
Phil -- Comcast Center.

I am torn on this.

On one hand, if the Yankees win, JoltinJoe will be even more insufferable, and I can't hold the fact that the Dbacks have won a World Series more recently than the Yanks have.

On the other hand, I would like to see the greatest hitter ever, A-Rod, get a ring and shut the unappreciative, unknowledgeble Yankee Fans up.

People:
NY - you know that one asshole from the town you grew up in? yeah, he moved to NY - the city comprised of 14 million "that one assholes"
Phil - unsophisticated, but passionate and good natured children of immigrants. the kind of city truly loves it's own and has a hearty "fuck you" attitude toward the rest of the east coast (just like the rest of America does)

fans:
NY - spoiled fucks who pretend their franchises are any kind of special and all-fire sophisticated - mock "hicks" whilst dancing to "cotton-eye joe" and playing baseball in a billion dollar mall, a 50 year old arena or North Jersey...

Phil - fans with the passion to give a shit, even when their team loses. boo lack of effort, and stupid-ass contrived stunts (like the TBS announcers... they were booing for EVERY SINGLE FAN outside of NY and LA) (ps, they CHEERED Brad Lidge got behind him - knew he was struggling, and SUPPORTED him... little reported because it flies in the face of the Philly reputation)

rowdy fans:
NY - "bleacher creatures" due to absurd Yankee ticket prices, even these guys are fucking investment bankers...

Phil - the 700 level - nuff said.

teams:
NY - a franchise that has spent 2 billion dollars this decade on payroll - with just as many WS titles as the Mariners, A's, Giants, Dodgers, Padres, Rockies, Rangers, Astros, Rangers, Twins, Brewers, Cubs, Tigers, Braves, Rays, Orioles, Nationals, Pirates, Reds, Indians and Blue Jays.

Phil - the reigning World Fucking Champs.

the philosophies:
NY - everything that is wrong with baseball - insane ticket prices, corporate EVERYTHING, douchenozzle players looking to make a buck, a manager who is a human rain delay - something no other team in baseball would even be allowed to do...

Phil - tons of homegrown talent (Utley, Rollins, Howard, Chooch, Hamels) a few key trades and risky free agents that panned out (Lee, Werth, Ibanez, Victorino, Feliz)

let's see if the umpires continue to be surrogate Yankees in this series... thusfar, they're the MVP's for NY.
