Proud of this crew for getting an outright BSC title. Shan has been here since the Earlywine days and has proven his coaching abilities.

Now...if we can just get some revenge on the Griz. It reminds me a bit of the early 2000’s.

This could be bad for UNC because Suutah has upset the #2-seed in the last two quarterfinals (Idaho, then UNC last year).

I didn't really expect Cardenas to get DPOY since SUU's team defense wasn't very good, but whatever. Also, Lizzy Klinker should've been higher than 3rd. team, and Alexis Chapman shouldn't be on there at all (32% shooting).

SD: Is this legit, vis a vis Sac? Should we have had more? Should we have had none? Should this one we got have been on First Team? Third Team? Is Third Team really another way of saying "Honorable Mention?"

There's also an Honorable Mention section, I just didn't list it. I don't have any disagreements as far as Sac is concerned.

Trevon Allen should be first team, IMO (over either Frey or Woods), but a player from a last-place team just isn't likely to get that.

Tangential Coaching News…

Post by Mvemjsunpx »

This isn't directly Big Sky related anymore, but North Dakota fired WBB coach Travis Brewster today. Brewster had been with the program for 17 years (8 as HC) and was the only head coach they had for their entire Big Sky tenure. It sounds like he had poor relationships with some of his players, and the fact this year's Big Sky MVP was a former NoDak star couldn't have helped. That MVP, Fallyn Freije, also bad mouthed him in this recent article.

The Bears elevated Steve Smiley to HC to replace Linder. Smiley was Linder's top assistant and had been on the staff since Linder's first year in 2016-17.

Katz returning. Deal not finalized yet.
SACRAMENTO — Sacramento State Director of Athletics Mark Orr announced today that Brian Katz has agreed in principle to a multi-year contract extension to remain the Sacramento State head men's basketball coach. Terms of the contract will not be released until finalized.

The current environment just isn't conducive to a major coaching search. I wonder if COVID saved Harkleroad's job, too…

And I still can't believe that Brian Katz is 62 years old.

I agree, no telling how much the Chinese Virus has played into this. No doubt the Katz deal will be shorter than the 6 year extension people claimed he had a verbal for 3 years ago.

He did a great job.

And the reality is with the Covid-19, face to face interviews are not possible. Hard to gauge a person without that.

His ties to the Valley Prep scene should be a major plus.

Him not getting the job would've really surprised me, even without COVID. This past season for NAU was considerably better than any of Murphy's last 4 years.

Yes - I thought before the end of the season he deserved the job
