Lady Hornets looking really good. Hope this hot hand keeps up into the BSCT.
On the men's side, I think interest has turned more towards how the HC search and hire will be handled.

I'd completely forgotten about this, SD. Then I looked back on our SacBuzz discussion, and it all came flooding back. Now I'm embarrassed.
So, was this year going to happen anyway? Has it happened because of the lateness of Katz' retirement? Is Laird not capable? Is it a combination of all of that?
You're our best guy, SD. I'm sure you at least have an idea about this....

It was Katz' last year on the contract. I'll take Katz at his word when he said he retired for health reasons. To be honest, his retirement avoids another situation where "fans" start a social media campaign to harass Nelsen and Orr about extending him so it works out for the better IMO. The team looks lost and unprepared under Laird, not that I think he had much of a chance at the gig without a boatload of wins, which is out of the question now. I guess he can get the gig if he pulls a monumental run in the BSCT and gets the Hornets to the Dance, but that ain't happening.
Nelsen and Orr have not fucked around regarding their recent hires (Taylor FB, Campbell WBB, retained Christiansen among competing offers from Pac 12 programs in baseball) so I trust they will do their due diligence and make a solid hire.

Montana follows up perhaps their best defensive effort of the season with their absolute worst. Looked literally like two different teams out there.

Venus: Why does the "official" standings chart (for the women, anyway) list Sac before NAU? By the latest tiebreaker procedures I was able to find, YOUR arrangement is correct. (H2H is a split, and both teams have played the teams tied at the top once, and all of those are losses, so that's a wash, leaving RPI position, which shows NAU at 180, while Sac is only 244.)
That said, I have questions about the RPI given NAU's and Sac's relative OOC schedules, but as it currently stands, NAU should be in front of Sac, just as you have it. About the only obvious difference is Sac's extra OOC win, but that's not in the procedures....

I think the Big Sky website just breaks the tie with overall record, at least prior to seeds being clinched.
EDIT - I fixed a mistake above. Sac should be higher because of a better record against Northern Colorado.

Portland State's men's team is playing pretty well since coming back from the COVID break. This week is the Montana trip, which is brutal when both the Cats and Griz are playing well. Certainly a strong test.

Right now, probably the best way not to lose by 48 points.
