MBB All-Conference Teams & Awards

Post by Mvemjsunpx »

I think Mikey Dixon (IDA) should've been on the team and not just honorable mention, but I don't think I have any other real complaints.

Bobcat Men - If they play like they did against NoCo, they've got a shot.

Maybe. I'm no fan of the Kitties, but Stanford has a history....

No. They don’t. Not even remotely.

Five (*EDIT* - now six) Big Sky teams are confirmed for the national postseason (I'm not sure if The Basketball Classic is done selecting yet):

Men

NCAA - Montana St.
NIT - (none)
CBI - Northern Colorado
TBC - Southern Utah, Eastern Washington

Women

NCAA - Montana St.
WNIT - Idaho St.
WBI - (none)

(Weber turned down a TBC bid)

What is this TBC? Is it a replacement for the CIT, which isn't a "thing" this year?

Yes. It's technically a new tournament, but it's still sponsored by collegeinsider.com and uses the same format.

Thanks, Venus. I saw pretty much the same explanation on the UOP board; UOP's conference chums Portland got in the TBC and if they get the first-ever post-season victory, they're likely to play UTEP, I guess....

Sac Hires David Patrick (MBB)

Post by Mvemjsunpx »

As expected, the Hornets did not retain interim HC Brandon Laird. They instead went with Oklahoma assistant David Patrick. Patrick, who was born in Bermuda and raised in Melbourne, will be on to his fourth different job in four seasons. His only prior head-coaching stint was at UC Riverside, where he went 27-38 from 2018-20. There were rumors about Sac wanting to hire David Bibby, but it was unclear how vetted those rumors were.

It appears this will be the only coaching change in the Big Sky—MBB or WBB—this offseason. Idaho officially retained fan "favorite" Zac Claus, and it looks like Weber's women will keep Velaida Harris.

It's not official, but the rumors I'm hearing are indicating it will be Patrick. Also heard Bibby was never interviewed (thank God).

Damn good hire imo. I'm surprised we can even hire someone with this level of D1 experience given our horrific facilities. Nelsen/Orr (potentially) coming through yet again.

I know nothing about David Patrick, but I would have been much happier had the Hornets hired Sherri Murrell....

Former Montana guard Cameron Parker "comes home", transferring to Portland State.

He will have one year of eligibility. He has led the conference in assists the last two years at Montana.

Rahe went 316-191 in 16 seasons at Weber with 3 NCAA appearances (5 Big Sky regular-season titles). Lead assistant Eric Duft is now the head coach.

Portland State hires former Sacramento State star Megan Kritscher as women's assistant coach.

https://goviks.com/news/2022/7/20/WBB_20220721.aspx

After leaving Sacramento State, she played professionally overseas from 2013-2018. She comes to PSU after lead assistant jobs with NAIA Southeastern and William Jessup.
