FRISCO, Texas – The City of Frisco, in partnership with Hunt Sports Group, LLC and the Southland Conference, submitted a bid this week to serve as the host of the NCAA Division I Football Championship Games following the 2010, 2011 and 2012 seasons. Should the city be successful in its bid effort, the contest, formerly known as the NCAA Division I-AA Championship game, will be played at Frisco’s 23,500-seat Pizza Hut Park. The Southland will serve as the host conference.

The state-of-the-art facility features 18 luxury suites, a 6,000-square foot stadium club, two suite decks and four covered pavilions for larger groups, two video display boards for spectators, and an open concourse allowing full viewing of game action. Baylor Health Care System also has a 6,500-square foot sports medicine and rehabilitation center at the stadium, the national headquarters of U.S. Youth Soccer are located at Pizza Hut Park, and numerous restaurants and retail developments have also been built in and around the complex.

Frisco, located just 25 miles north of downtown Dallas, has developed a reputation as a burgeoning sports center in recent years. In addition to FC Dallas and Pizza Hut Park, the city is also home to the NHL’s Dallas Stars executive headquarters and training facility, the 8,800-seat Dr Pepper Ballpark, home to the Frisco RoughRiders of the Texas League, and the 6,100-seat Dr Pepper Arena, home to the Texas Tornado of the North American Hockey League, and a new NBA Development League team.
I like this one a lot.

Dallas is really easy to get to and the stadium is perfect, IMO.

The other thing I like about it is the fact that its the SLC sponsoring it and not one particular school. Conferences generally have better marketing arms than individual schools, which will definitely help with the locals.

I've been there for FC Dallas games. Its a great stadium with good parking and tailgating areas.

The downside is its north of Dallas. A good 45-60 drive from Love Field or DFW airport. Not sure how it would draw. FC Dallas is struggling to draw because of the drive.

I would love this location.

There are a lot of hotels in the area, closer, so I don't see that as an issue.

I'm talking locals going. Fans of the teams will do anything.

It's only 30 minutes or less from either Love of DFW, unless you catch rush hour going the wrong direction. I have made these drives several times in recent years.

it's Texas... these people will go watch prison football, so long as it's football... they'll come to our game...

I LOVE this bid. Major city that's football crazy - perfect sized stadium - near major airport - decent weather - other things in town to draw more casual fans and boost attendance

This is a joint venture between the city of Frisco, the Southland Conference and the Hunt Sports Group (owners of FC Dallas, among other things).

This bid is the best non-Chatty bid so far. Its hard to compare it to Chatty because it is different. I love this stadium and Dallas is a great great location. And yes, you're talking about football in Texas. People will go to this game.

Just read an interesting fact on AGS about this bid from a guy who knows the SLC.

Apparently Southwest Airlines is on board to be a major sponsor of this event if granted to Frisco.

The sponsorship is rumored to include, among other things, discounted charters to participating schools and really cheap packages into Dallas Love Field for fans.

If that's the case, Chatty doesn't stand a chance.

Although their places are nice with top meat, they are over rated and over priced.

Sounds like a pretty cool bid. Could work out for Montana fans (if they make it, of course) as flying Southwest out of Spokane would be huge and could get an even larger contingent of Griz fans to go to Texas. Now if the FCS can get the DFW area excited about FCS football then we may have something!! :thumb:
