Question for kickers

What's up with two different color shoes?
I'm guessing part of it is due to the fact that kickers wear a particular kind of shoe on their kicking foot, and then on their plant foot they wear various different shoes depending on what gives the best traction on that particular type of playing surface/field conditions.
But is there any other reason why they're usually different color?

Quick answer:
One foot is a soccer cleat
One foot is a football cleat
Dramatic Kicker Answer:
For me, I used two soccer cleats my entire career. I just liked the feel better.
For some the team issued cleat come in a soft ground (metal tipped), grass (regular stud), firm/field turf (little plastic nubbins), or astro turf (little rubber balls to completely flat).
The idea that the plant foot needs a special type of cleat depending on the field is usually what does it, so they are all football cleats. The right is a soccer cleat, and are either going to be generic black (while the football is colored for the team), or going to be some absurd color (i had chrome one year).
We kickers were spoiled at Nova. I had my everyday kicking cleats, for field turf/firm grass as thats what we usually played on. Then I had a soft ground cleat (like mentioned above), only i used to get the exact same cleats in a different bottom so I didn't have to do the ole two color business.
Really it is for preference. Usually the kicking cleat is a full size to size and half smaller than your regular cleat (i wear a 13 football cleat and an 11.5 kicking cleat). The idea being you want as little foot as possible to hit the ground (so smaller feet for kickers is ideal). You will notice you don't generally see this on just punters, they usually use whatever. I was also "blessed" with a much smaller left foot than right so I could easilly use the 11.5 on both feet.
sorry to be long winded. Just isn't as simple as the short answer in reality.

Because they're
kickers — on any IQ chain they're one rung above cheerleaders and majorettes but directly below parade horses. They use the different colors as an additional aid to help tell their left shoe from their right, and then they call the trainer over to put them on and lace them up

How quickly can kickers put their legs behind their heads?

The image doesn't show but I'll guess quicker than Appa in a leatherboy bar.

That's pretty disgusting Sly. It also must represent that Kickers have nothing to "show" for their efforts

Holy shit, we got
another CS kicker? What are we up to now, something like ten board members who were former kickers? Christ, we're literally
up to here in fucking kickers. Oh, how I long for a CS poster who was a nice long-snapper or something

Generally for punting I use a pair of soccer cleats. ADIDAS Copa Mundial's to be exact. But sometimes, we play on really shitty natural grass fields and I switch my plant foot to a longer soccer cleat, but keep the Copa on my right. Just comfortable with that set up. Never have liked Nike cleats, always go with ADIDAS. My backup shoes are Nike's though.

Don't knock kickers. They're not all dumb. Bengals' punter Pat McInally graduated from Harvard and got the only certified perfect score on the Wonderlich.

Not all dumb? What's dumb about making millions of dollars a year for NOT getting hit? If you ask me the other positions are the dumb ones.

Except for game day when my blood is up, Mrs. Native and I were relieved when our young high school linebacker/fullback/noseguard with three previous concussions was picked up as a DI kicker.
...alas, however, kicker or no, he will not be acing the Wonderlich... but he still likes to knock heads and make tackles!

I was a long snapper in High School (the one year I played). Does that count?

Partial qualifier — CatMom made it pretty obvious she wanted to verify the length of said snapper first

While the kicker might be smart enough to stand by himself on the far side of the practice field while everyone else is on the other end getting their shit knocked around, you just know he's over there blowing spit bubbles and using a football for a hackeysack whilst considering the mysteries of the universe and other important things, like growing a totally sweet beard and what color he's going to dye his hair next.
Fact: kickers are flakes and superstitious headcases. It's science, dude. SCIENCE! But you know we love you and Willie anyway
