SUU conference affiliation

As a fan of SUU, I am always thinking of how they could find a more stable conference situation. I think eventually Poly and Davis could join the WAC, even though that's way down the line. My pain point is that the Great West is not going to be around very long. And if it is, in my opinion, it's going to be a conference for those teams in transition. In a perfect world, we would be the tenth member of the Sky. But another thing to consider is whether anyone thinks that the Southland may ever consider inviting SUU into the conference. I think one good thing we have going for us are the matchups we have developed with McNeese, TX St, and SFA over the last few years. I know we are a bit of a Western reach, but with TX St, UTSA, and maybe Lamar and/or Sam Houston potentially eyeing the move to FBS, the conference will have to search for some members. I would love to see New Mexico St. wisen up, go back to FCS, and for the Southland to invite both of us. Something to discuss. SOUTHern utah

Southland would be a better fit for you AND NAU. Shorter, cheaper flights. Easier competition. :coffee:

I hate the fact that SUU is not in the big sky. wsu/suu in-state rivalry in the same conf make sense. i hear suu is too poor for the big sky. really? that doesnt seem like a logical reason. maybe the big sky doesn't want to travel suu. as if its convenient to go to nau.

I think the Big Sky would be a much better fit for SUU just because we have shown we can compete with Big Sky Schools in recent years (we also have EWU coming up this year) and we could start a rivalry game that could eventually maybe get as big as Montana vs Montana State in the conference.

Then Great West? Please......

Or Big Sky for that matter. The conferences are the same Montana and McNeese on top and then a cluster fuck under that

The question is if the Great West were to break up, where would they all go?

Cal Poly, UC Davis, SUU and North and South Dakota.

What would happen to all of them, would the Big Sky take them and become a 14 team conf? or will some California teams like Cal St Fullerton and maybe even Northridge bring football back and join the GW. And another thing Why isnt San Diego in the GW? And did Denver ever have a football team? or are they just hockey oriented?

No matter what other BSC teams think, I would like SUU in the BSC, they have a very strange "rivalry" with Weber State, and I think a developing rivalry with NAU. Their B-Ball team is competitive and I am looking forward to the Weber/SUU game in Ogden this year. (At least the basketball teams will play each other.)

San Diego doesn't want to seem to invest in scholarships for their football program.

Denver dropped their football program in 1960.

Just would make it that much easier for WSU to get a 20 win season in basketball and we've had 20 wins or more almost half of our entire history in DI. since 1963.
