North/South Proposed Alignment for Western Schools

After watching USD and UND run all over the field, I'd GLADLY take these two teams into the Big Sky. They already are better than Sac State and ISU, could probably beat PSU and UNC and would be competitive with MSU and NAU.
I know this will never happen, but this would be my dream Great Northwest Conference, followed by a re-aligned Great West Conference:
Montana
Montana State
North Dakota
South Dakota
Eastern Washington
Central Washington (move up)
Weber State
Idaho State
Great West would look something like this:
Cal Poly
UC Davis
Sacramento State
SUU
NAU
Portland State
San Diego (add schollys)
Northern Colorado
The fly in the ointment is Portland State, so we really need them to hurry up and go FBS and then substitute in a different FCS team located somewhere in the Southwest.

The fly is going to stay around and bother you. PSU is not going to FBS anytime within the next 10 years. More of a chance to have that team in the Southwest replace San Diego. The administration there will not do anything to jeopardize the basketball program (think St. Mary's a few years ago).

however tom... gotta wonder about wanting UND considering grand forks is even more hard to get to than fargo...

They could bus too. I drive the 884 miles from Fargo to Deer Lodge a couple times a year, it's not that bad to be honest. Sure, it's 12 hours, but it's really not bad. But a Div-I team would NEVER bus that far. Plain and simple.

don't be so sure. MSU and UM drive to Weber which is about 500 and 460 miles respectively. Yes they may not drive 884 but that is still a long way.

None of this matters...the CAA will soon absorb all those teams and it will become the CAA West...
