Im posting this early because well plain and simple i think that this could be a canidate for game of the week. My Thunderbirds are coming off a tough three week road schedule to play the Bobcats at home, and the past few years we have well to put it plainly whipped them pretty good. Looking forward to another great game in Cedar City

Bobcats struggle in OOC games on the road.
Both teams put up points and give up points. This will be a shootout.
If Texas St gets a healthy Rivas and Bush back for this game, the favor leans more towards Texas St.
I'm hoping for some revenge this year.
SUUTbird, who should we look out for on your team? Are y'all a running or passing team? How is your defense?

record is 4 - 5 so don't go off half cocked. We have a better team this year and they haven't forgotten they were lackadasical in this game last year. We only lost 19 players so the rest of them remember.
whipped them pretty good
2005 TXST 34 - 0
2006 SUU 30 - 21 (after losing 38 seniors)
2008 SUU 34 -20 (asleep at the wheel)
This team is ready for the rematch, believe me.

Do any of you SUU fans know if there is a video feed for this game or will I be stuck listening to the radio?

I disagree for game of the week. Simply put, while your QB has put up some numbers you haven't faced a D like ours, nor have any of your opponents D's been ranked near the D's we have faced. We gave up 325 in the air last night but no defensive TD's passing. They got their lone D TD when we put in our 2's. Their other TD would make highlight reels. TSU blocked a FG attempt and lateraled their way down field. While it was ugly for our team I thoroughly enjoyed seeing it as I never have seen it happen live. That won't happen again, either.
Utah St - 117 FBS
Dixie State - 124 DII
San Diego State - 41 FBS
Northern AZ - 118 FCS
Angelo State - 18 DII
TCU - 12 FBS
TSU - 80 FCS
Yep, I'm starting smack so this may have to be moved. Our D is 98 (who just beat 80) but we're moving up and it will be hard to get far after the TCU game but I think our guys can manage some upward mobility. (Or I hope they do)

Not at all talking smack about you guys its just that we have had your guys number for the past two years and this year we are way better then we were last year. I agree that this will be a shootout because our defense have been suspect at times and need improvement, but i think you guys also havent faced an O with so many talented WR's. I just think our home field advantage will be the deciding factor as slycat pointed out how you guys struggle in OOC games on the road.
And slycat we have alot of weapons this year you guys should be watching out for:
-QB Cade Cooper: Best QB we have had in a very long time, makes great decisions and i think the best QB in the GWC this year, also a threat on the ground, Stats:
(88/144 1019 Yds/ 10 Tds. 4 Ints.)
-RB's Austin Minefee + Major Gray: For the first time in a long while we have a running game led by these two who both have the power and speed to be a problem in both the run and passing game (especially Minifee who has 4 total TD's this season) Combined Stats:
Rushing: (87 Carries 442 Yds. 3 Tds.) Receiving: (8 Rec. 112 Yds. 3Tds.)
-WR Tyson Poots: After coming back from a foot injury against NAU the All Amercan has already made a huge impact and will continue to do so as he quickly gets back to 100%, Stats:
(13 Rec. 176 Yds. 2 Tds in 2 games)
-WR Fesi Sitake: Our leading WR who has the potential to be another All American as this junior looks just as good as Poots is. With Tyson being injured he took over and currently is our best WR, easily our best 3rd down go to guy, Stats:
(34 Rec. 343 Yds. 5 Tds.)
-Ryan Griffith The WR turned Kicker this year is off to an amazing start and i have no trouble nominating this guy as one of the best kickers in the FCS. Except for a blocked extra point vs San Diego State he has been perfect the whole year and with great range and accuracy will continue to be a huge weapon for us, Stats:
(12/13 Exp. 10/10 FGs. Long of 49 Yds.)
These guys on offense will be creating all sorts of havoc for opposing defenses the rest of the year and im particular excited on the point that this year we have a very good shot to win the Great West Conference Title for the first time ever.

Catmom WTF are you talking about with the "you haven't face a D like ours?" thing. Unless you guys are massively improved then your D ain't nothing to be hanging your hat on. The offense is very good but the D? Come on. I would venture to say that they have seen D's exactly like yours or about like yours. Utah State is a match and SD State is definately better than TXST's. NAU's D is fairly comparable as well. Southland conference defenses that I have watched (quite a few) are pretty soft. You better be hanging your hat on the offense cuz you're gonna give up points/yds./ and whatever else you can if I don't miss my guess on this one.
I think TXST/SUU will be a real good game and I could see either team taking it.

WTF I'm saying is our D is better than the ranking. We took all but a couple of our 1st teamers out of the TCU game for the 4th qtr. when they scored those 21 last points with their 1st team still in. We didn't allow a defensive D (TSU) even with 325 yds passing until we put in a whole 2nd team (against TSU) We put 2nds in against ASU. A lot of the yardage and damage was done (TCU) against our 2nd team who was getting experience. I think Wright will go with the 1st team the whole game against SUU.
249 of those yards, allowed 0 TD points - 2 FG.
ASU - 1st team D - 395 yds
TCU - 1st team D - 320 yds
TSU - 1st team D - 249 yds
Not putting the 2nd team in we give up 320 ypg. which would rank at 40 in FCS and 37 in FBS, ahead of San Diego. I do realize this is conjecture and other teams put 2nd's in also but I am trying to show that our D is better than the numbers. We're shaking the team out for conference play and we have had injuries. Plus, one is supposed to point out one's strengths. I'm doing that. No, our D is not the cream of the crop but this is not 2008's D.
At TCU we lost one of our 2 top WR's, so far. He DNP Saturday. Saturday one of our TE went out with hamstring issues. Our C got a nice gash and missed some, but will play Saturday. Rivas (WR) and Bell (Sr LB)came back and saw limited action. Our running game picked up a bit and Bush (RB) will likely be back for SUU.

PS - my arguments may seem circular or ill advised, or nonsensical to others but I have been to these games and I know what I am seeing. I know who was in for what and what was accomplished, or not, at those times. And I know what I write does not necessary come off the same as I am thinking in my head but at least I'm here, I go to the games, I have an opinion and I try.

I'm sorry, while I appreciate your passion for your team, I don't understand your argument. After TCU's first possession of the second half, TCU had 338 yards and 35 points. At this point, 2:45 into the third quarter, TCU already has more yards than the 320 you are claiming were given up by the first team defense. At this point, TCU has averaged 9.4 yards per play. In 7 possessions, TCU has punted once and thrown an interception and scored five touchdowns.
It is after this point, when Texas State shows a little defense. After the 12:15 point in the third quarter, TCU only averages 5.2 yards per play, with 7 possessions--3 touchdowns, 2 punts, 1 turnover, and one run out the clock.
Apparently your second string defense is better than your first string.
BTW, George Bradley QBed every Texas State possession except the last one when Tim Hawkins came in to engineer a 3 play, 5 yard drive. His only completed pass was to Daren Dillard, who also caught passes from George Bradley in the 1st and 2nd quarters. Garrett Hood, Kennet Hampton, Bryan Iwuji, and Derek Lopez were making tackles both early and late in the game. Apparently, they didn't get the memo that it was time for the 2nd string defense to play.
320 yards by TCU does sound a lot better than the 508 TCU actually put on Texas State. But, then you are barely counting half the game.

Umm. NAU would beat Tx Soutern by a wide margin so whatever ranking you are using is highly suspect

A few corrections. Hawkins was in on 3 possessions but did not pass, he ran. Wildcat formation with George wide right.
We had
a lot of 2nd teamers in the 4th qtr. Not the whole damned 2nd team. TCU kept their 1st team in until 3 minutes left. You didn't read what I wrote
"We took all but a couple of our 1st teamers out of the TCU game for the 4th qtr."
Our D gets better the second half, usually after the coaches get their hands on them in the locker room.
Lopez, Iwuji and Hampton are 2nd on the 2 deep and played most of the 4th.
The 3 last TD's were against mostly non-starters. I was there. I saw it and I actually know what I am talking about most of the time.
You can come back with the yardage argument, if you want. I'm not going to go around and around with you as I stated in my last post on here. Our D is getting better and better and we have Bell back. We likely won't move up a great deal in the D stats because of TCU, and that's ok. It will only serve us, in the end.
Offensively we'll pick up. Only # 18 right now but only 3 games. We'll get our injured players back so that opens up a whole other aspect. Brad has 10-12 players he can air the ball out to and we will have a triple tandem of v good RB's when Bush is full strength.

SUU has a good football team. I was at their game this past sat @ FBS Utah State. SUU could have won the game. It was close most of the game.
SUU does nothing but pass, at least in that game. Very good passing game. Run wasn't too effective but they were playing an FBS.
Minus a few late TO's SUU could have pulled off the upset. Also I was impressed with how many TBird fans were in attendance.
(When the hell are Weber & SUU gonna play again????)

Catmom you are here and making an argument, I applaud that but your reasoning is being picked apart because your reasoning is circular and just cherry picks here and there. You are making THE EXACT arguments about who has played and for how much of the game as EVERY OTHER team out there could probably make. The OOC is when the coaching staff gets the reps for the 2nd team and so forth so acting like that is something that sets your team appart is just silly. Also, a ton of teams play better defense in the second half once the coaches and players get used to what the opposing offense is trying to run so that doesn't make your team different either. I've seen TXST play a couple of times last year, another one in person and I'm just saying if you want to put your eggs in the "we have a great defense" basket then you are a lot more likely to be sorely disappointed than if you see them for what they are. You guys need to put up points to win and saying "you haven't seen a defense like ours" is just silly. You may have a playoff team this year but you have your rose colored glasses planted pretty firmly on your face so far this year it would appear.

Wanted to make a correction re: Iwuji. He played most of the game against TCU and TSU due to the injury to Bell, so I have to exclude him from being a 2 in that game.
Ursus - maybe so but this is not 2008's D. It is better if you do a stats comparitive, which someone did on BCF, including the TCU game.

Last year defense was one of the worst in the country.
This years defense is better but still near the bottom.
If somebody was to ask me how our defense was I would say they are weak, they are better, but they are still weak.

I won't dispute the fact we are ranked low, but 10 places higher than at this time last season, mainly due to the TCU game. Right now I can't think of any other FCS team that has played a D ranked as high, or nearly as good, as TCU's and therefore no one outside our fans or players has any right to judge where our D is or isn't or how good or bad they are, or may be.
Everyone on here thinks I'm nuts how I am describing the TCU game and the importance of yardage given (or not) by whom and at what stage of the game but, I was there. The scholarship and depth differential reared it's ugly head towards the end but those guys played up to TCU's level (or nearly, ok?) for a very long time, it just fell apart when we didn't have the depth to continue competing at that level. But it's over. It was 2 weeks ago. The D IS improving and that's what counts.
When an FBS coach is not happy with a win and the fans tell you your team had them scared and you know your D kept them on their toes, well, I'll leave it there.
For the rest of you...this is my last post for a bit. I have real life personal issues going on and I have to focus elsewhere. Catch you all down the line.

I honestly dont know but we need to get that rivalry restarted, it would do alot in the way towards getting us at least a little more media attention for one week and it would be a great game (especially this year in my opinion).
But back to the game it will be an offensive shootout as our defense of late has been very very poor, hopefully we can get that changed and soon.

I think maybe Minifee is banged up but we have a great second string RB in Major Gray. We have for the most part been a passing team but the rushing game has come a long way since Ed Lamb has been here, looking forward to a great game, GO THUNDERBIRDS!
