Jacksonville State @ Nicholls - Cocks look good Nicholls looks bad
NWS @ Baylor - Not even close
Southeastern Louisiana @ SDSU - Good game home team wins
Sam Houston @ Tulsa - Not even close
ND @ Stephen F Austin - Good game but SFA pills on points.

Just a point of clarification - SFA is playing UND, not NDSU.

southland.org just lists North Dakota. Not as specific as I would have liked, so I assumed NDSU

Don't hate me CatMom, but SE Louisiana is playing USD rather than SDSU. Sorry for being a pain in the ass....

I'll do a few picks myself, although I must say I don't know much about a couple of teh teams in the SLC:

McNeese over Tulane 28-24
Jax St over Nicholls 35-14
Baylor over NSU 48-17
USD over SE Louisiana 35-31
Tulsa over SHSU 48-21
SFA over UND 27-21 (I hope my Sioux prove me wrong)
Texas St over Texas Southern 54-10
UCA over Glenville State 56-7

Hambone,

I'll give you a few, likely biased, opinions.

UCA - I think they're OOC is lame and can be deceiving. While they didn't lose everyone, they lost their QB in Brown. They have 2 good WR's and some returners on D. They're schedule, and wins, while impressive, do not tell you a whole lot about them so far. They came close to Hawaii and beat WKU. Those 2 teams, while FBS, may be lucky to get 5 wins between them this year. Their other OOC games are even less than cupcakes. What they are made of has yet to be tested.

McNeese - has Pendland and a good QB in Fourroux but, again, their OOC is less than impressive. Henderson State? Savannah State? Tulane? And while App looked good on paper...App lost to WKU the week before. How good is App, or how bad? Again, you can't say how this team really stacks up.

TXST - Our passing #s are good but our run yardage sucks. Is this the O line or the injury to Bush? Our D stats suck but we played TCU who left their starters in. 2 games - 1 DII and a top FBS team, who finished 7th in the polls last season and whose D is ranked in the top 5 nationally. This week really won't help either. It's a gimme game and will inflate numbers. After the game against TCU I am more confident than I was 3 weeks ago but I still have concerns. I think SUU will be our first test as to how conference may shake out.

You do notice I don't pick these games, right? The running joke, in our family, used to be that you could put just my dad and I in a room to play Bingo and neither of us would ever win. It's how it goes for me so I just sit back and watch. Of course, in my mind, I have who I think/want to see win, but I don't disclose.

Just a couple of comments -

First ASU lost to an Eastern Carolina team without Armanti Edwards (not WKU who is picked as the worst FBS team in the country).

Second, I agree that SUU will be the first reasonable test for the Cats. They seem to have a problem with SUU and especially in Cedar City.

The fog will begin to clear soon as league play begins
